Dumb ?? On closing your hood on your C7
#21
When I did the museum pickup on my 2016 Z06 I was told the best way was to give it a gentle push towards the rear of the hood vent area and use your knuckles since there is less oil transfer/prints. This has worked fine for me, it shuts completely every time without any slamming drama.

I tie a shoelace to the hood release so I can pull it at the exact right moment the hood is making contact with the latch mechanism and let go immediately after. The sound is so satisfying. Only forgot to untie my shoe from the lever once..
People always give me awkward looks. I guess they've never seen perfection before

drop it, it shuts nice.
On a similar note, the rear I give her a tug on the inside lever and it closes, most of hte time, if it doesnt (and you have a pre 2016 that doesnt have soft close), make sure you're using both hands at the base of the window (upward crease) together - some have had issues closing on one side - cracking etc

Have closed Corvette hoods (six cars) the same way for 27 years - drop them from about 18".... close the Ferrari the same way.... never a problem....

Ok I am out voted. I will change my habit and close via the drop/push from the vent area. The wife and I will be flying out to Bowling Green Wednesday morning for the bash this weekend so maybe I can gain some knowledge on this.

Whatever your method, just remember to put those wipers back down first!
You can't get to the base of the windshield without opening the hood.

Mike furman showed me the RIGHT WAY lol.. he is right though and it works!
2 fingers at the edge of the straight part of the hood (aligned with the passenger super blade roughly) and pull the hood down in one fell swoop. It closes perfectly each time. If you do it too light the one side won't close.
who wants to shove the center of the hood down so you have to wipe half the hood off? This way it's barely a finger mark.

I have had the issue of the hood latching.....but still being "open" about 1/2 an inch on 1 side. I then pop it open again instead of "pushing down" on that side - which could cause trouble.
The best thing to do is get it about 18 inches or so from being closed and then drop it firmly from the center. That seems to work. Hold your hand down on it if you have to - but NOT your fingers (which leaves prints).
Nice to know I am not the first to have such a thing occur with my Corvette. This forum is nothing short of awesome......as there is a wealth of knowledge here.

On the c5 I could just drop it from a foot and it would latch. On the c7 if I do that it would only latch on one side. If I give it a little extra push at the rear just to the left of the hood scoop, it latches every time. I tried adjusting the latch to make it latch easier, but then the edge of the hood did not line up with the height of the fender.
