Default When did the discounts ramp up last year?

I was talking to my dealer yesterday about trading in my 16' on a 17' Z06. I have GMS pricing but told them I wanted to wait until the discounts were as aggressive as they were last year. Conveniently my dealer does not recall that most dealers were discounting 20%+ on the left over inventory.

He claims the most they gave was 8% which doesn't beat GMS pricing and I specifically remember they had cars listed well below GMS. My question to you was when did the discounts on 16's really start to get aggressive? Was it september or later?

I think the discounts approaching 20% came with a combination of incentives from GM and bonus tags on certain cars. With no incentives the typical deals were around 8% to 12%. I think you can get close to 20% right now on loaded 3LZ ($100k+) cars with the carbon brake package. The less expensive cars that are less than $90k seem to be only around 8% to 15%.

There are a bunch of brand new 16 Z06's sitting on dealer lots right now. With the 18's scheduled to start being built in June you might find a sweet deal on a 16 now. End of month and end of quarter are even better times to look for deals.

If you are planning on tracking the car a lot the 17's seem to have better cooling, but if not the 16 Z06 should save you some money.

Discounts ramped up with the large GM Red Tag rebates. Unsure when that started, but by Sept it was quite easy to find 20+% off. I bought my Z07 in Oct from Buds at almost 21% off.

Unsure I'd describe the efforts as "most" dealers were at 20%, many yes, most no.

I tracked them from June until October when I pulled the trigger. They tend to bounce back and fourth from late July on. I did save an extra $1500 by waiting until the first week in October but they moved the last 7 cars in less than a week so be ready to pull trigger that day.

When production started to greatly exceed purchases.....Ole supply and demand theory. 270 days of inventory on hand and prices fall. Used C7 pricing is in a free fall.

With the plant closing for 3 months you may not see as great of discounts that were previously available.

japc5's theory might hold true. The plant closing might buy time where the dealers might not warrant as high of a discount as intended. You'll see some $$$ off, but not as aggressive during that time frame.

Another factor to look out for is "wanting a deal" vs "wanting a specific Corvette" and finding that balance. It might be harder to keep a vehicle with a specific option in stock; you don't want to get jobbed out of a purchase because you're specific model/color/transmission is not available based on the current sale. At the same time, you still want the best vehicle for the money. Don't be afraid to walk away, but always have a "Plan B" in hand.

If you aren't as eclectic on specifics or dealerships, there are some pretty aggressive deals going on right now in the dealer inventory section of this forum, specifically in the Michigan market. I was at George Matick inspecting the delivery of my Corvette on Saturday, and they're having a J57 sale going on. I personally saw one of their 100k+ Corvettes with a "sold" tag.

So I'd say now is a pretty good start at doing some window shopping through visiting dealerships personally and on the net.

So what's the strategy to order a 2018 today if these discounts are all over the place?

I bought my GS last August .. that is when GM was letting dealers put 10% bonus tags on their older stock. I actually went to dealer to look at a Bonus tag left over 2016 z06 .. and ended up with the 2017 GS ... I assume the 2017 Bonus tags will be out in a few months once the 2018's are shipping ...

I saw 12% off MSRP for an ordered, non in-stock, Z06 last January. Best deal I saw offered, so that's my target and timeline for the 2018 model year.

Does anyone know if the J57 $5000 incentive will get extended into May?

12% before or after incentives like bonus cash, loyalty discount, etc.?
