I notice a lot of guys put plastic wrap film on their cars like Xpel Etc. Do a lot of you guys still don't put any film on your new C7'S. Maybe some one could make a poll for me as yes use film or No I don't use film. I don't know how to set up a poll I have owned several used and new Corvettes but have never had film installed or had one with film on it already. Thanks Dave

Look, I came very close to getting Xpel but after talking to a couple of friends with white cars ,that had it done, they talked me out of it. It's a personal choice and I'm sure it's great stuff but their experiences changed my mind. Every time I mention this I get a mountain of critics but it's just my opinion & decision. Just saying.

I've done it on 3 cars and won't do it on my GS...
1. I don't really keep cars long enough to justify the cost
2. I don't like how it looks
3. I've had a couple installs where dirt collects at the edges and looks like ****

Not on my C5 or C6, but I did have it put on my 17 GS. I was concerned because the C7 seemed to kick up a lot more stones than the C6s when I caravanned behind them on outings with my club. I want to protect my rockers and rear quarter panel, especially since the GS has the wider fenders.

No wrap on my cars or my couches. Save that for the geezers.

No, I take my chances. The cost of Xpel is prohibitive, you can accomplish a lot of paint repair with the dollars you will pay. I never had to repaint any damaged areas.

I'm not going to Xpel (or the like) my GS. I plan to drive the hell out of it and any rock chips will either be repaired (if major) or worn like a badge of honor otherwise.
I am considering a ceramic pro like sealant as the idea of a long term "wax" seems very convenient.

I'm not a film guy either. I've got a few really minor chips but it doesn't bother me, it's just normal because I drive it.

If you want to preserve the finish from damage do it. If you don't care then don't spend the money. I think that the vast majority do not even know about PPF let alone use it. I have used it on every vehicle I've owned (for driving) since 2003. It's your call...there will be "haters" and "lovers". Just make sure that the "haters" have had personal experience with PPF for their opinions and not just what they have heard or read. Good luck. No, it's not cheap...neither was your car.

I'm leaving on a trip down Rt 66 on Friday. I wanted something to protect my front end so I got an ugly GM bra. It didn't fit good and looked terrible. I got the front end covered with Xpel and I now have some piece of mind.
If you think that stone chips will bother you, go ahead. I did the bumper, hood just after the louvers, the fenders, both mirrors and the cup that your hand fits into to open the door all for $795.

the front end of my car is wrapped with 3M Pro Plus. My C6 had a few chips on the hood in less than 2 years. Had my C7 for almost 3 years with not chips. To me, well worth the cost.
Also, I have no visible seams. My installer did a great job.

I live in Colorado where they put sand on the roads during snows and don't vacuum it up for weeks or months. This creates a sandblast effect which will dull the paint after a while I guess.

Paint chips drive me nuts. I have OEM, Lanka, and DrColor paints sitting around as well as couple others. So on all my cars I do a pre-emptive film on the front. Kind of old school, but I do partial hood, partial fenders, and bumper. On the side I had them film up to the lower crease (style line?) on the door. I have had mirrors done in the past, but I don't like the effect--and I have not had a chip on a mirror anyway. I also to the headlights (even though, for some reason, it's not legal in MN)
We both have an advantage with Torch Red. You just CANNOT see the film lines. I know some talk about film lines collecting dirt, but I have never had a trailing film line collect anything. And as long as the leading edges are wrapped, they don't collect either. I went with SunTek, and when I am waxing, under great lighting, I need to tape the edges just to see where it is!

I did not. Put it on a couple previous cars and was not happy with the look after a couple years. It does get chipped and on a light color car it may turn yellow. I understand the new films are better but I will just touch up my chips and move on. I don't cover my furniture with plastic wrap either.
Added: I did put LaminX on my headlights to protect them from getting cracked. It is easily removed or replaced but so far it has held up well. It is much thicker than the paint protection film.

I have installed Suntek on nearlly all my cars...2 vettes, 2 porsches, 2 BMW...now seriously condisering on my wife new Honda Van...lol
The clear film to me is a must...paint chips drive me crazy. plus on 3 sep occasions I have been hit by debris, tire tread and the film has protected my vehicle from serious damage each time.
