The Waldo Police Dept has been Disbanded by the State 2 yrs ago. Traffic enforcement is the same as in most areas in Florida now by the County and State Troopers. Still, the speed limit in Waldo is 25 MPH so watch the signs....

I avoid 301 by staying on 10W to 75S. I know it's out of the way but I can't take the 25, 35, 45 MPH after driving most of the way at 70.

Just something else to consider.

I would do Panama City Beach coastal. That will bring you back to Hwy 98. Then be sure to take scenic 30A, soon after you enter Walton County from Bay County.

When 30A runs out you will be back on 98. Across from the large Outlet Stores pick up Scenic Gulf Drive till it takes you back to 98 once again.

btw: I updated my earlier post.

When you got time... review those "scoop on the area" links mid-way post #1below

Are you just trying to get to Florida as quick as possible, are or you wanting to do some scenic drives/stops, etc?

That kind of dictates the route.

If not in a hurry get off at 1 in Delaware to 113 down to Norfolk, 17 down thru Wilmington, to Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and then Savannah. You can pick up I-95 right outside Savannah.

Joe, I probably could have worded it better in my OP, but all the input from everyone is great

Destination is our Condo in Madeira Beach, Gulf Blvd.
I'm not not planning on taking time for side trips or sight seeing.
But also not trying to get there as "fast" as possible.
My main objective is avoiding Big Cities/Traffic/Construction to enjoy the ride and not over do it trying to get there.
So far I've added about 150 miles to my original route I thought I'd use.
But with everyone's help, it's definitely a better route now even with the added miles.

As far as everyone's suggestions for places to see and enjoy
Planning a route with that info for the ride home with my wife

Many Thanks to everyone, and greatly appreciate all the help so far
Any more suggestions are welcome and will be put to good use
Best Regards, Frank

Follow I 95 to I 295 West around Jacksonville to I 10 west to Rt 301 South. It's about 10 miles. Follow 301 South to Ocala, then get on I 75 to I 275 to St. Pete. People will give you all kinds of routes but this way is the best to avoid all the big cities and traffic. Done it many times and as far as the weather down here he's right "rainy season" a 25% chance of a half hour shower in the afternoon and it clears up. Good luck!
Agree with this route. I'm heading from Naples FL to Upstate NY on Monday and am taking this route.

Mass Pike to 84 to 284 over Tap then GSP to NJTP then 95. Timing around DC is EVERYTHING. Don't take 95 through Connecticut as the GW and CBE will really slow you down. 495 around DC is okay in off hours. Daytime driving in that area is often impossible. DC has worst traffic in the US of A consistently. Use WAZE to not get caught. Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia (although much less illegal than speeding). Keep in mind that over 80 in Virginia is reckless driving. Radar detector $75 fine with no points. Also, take off your front license plate before you leave as they reflect too much radar/lidar.

OR, just dontspeed and spend an extra travel day. Be careful.

Amazingly Comfortable ride all the way.
Especially over a few rough spots.

Few pics from the Smokey Mountain Inn.
Will take more pics on the slower paced return trip.
I'll post about the trip itself and the Route I took after I'm settled in.
Thanks again to everyone for the input

"springer" has the most direct route but the time of your arrival to the 495 Beltway around DC is critical. Call me a nut, but I leave my home in NJ around 2am so that I'm past the Beltway before 6am. From there I continue driving until about 6pm (Again, call me crazy but I love driving my car), and stop in Florence, SC. Don't drive past there because there are very few exits with accommodations until you get to Georgia. If I'm not mistaken, the exits for Florence are 162-164. Check out this link http://www.i95exitguide.com/overnigh...-i95-exit-164/

Happy Motoring!!
