Picked up my new C7 Z06 (XPEL + Ceramic Coating) - huge shout out to MacMulkin
Taken moments after seeing the car for first time at MacMulkin
Hello everyone,
I wanted to officially welcome myself back after I custom ordered a 2017 A8 Z06 from MacMulkin Chevrolet on March 21st - a great forum vendor and one of the largest in Corvette sales in the world. I had worked with Tommy Jr (Owner) before when he was more involved in the day to do and this time I worked with Kenny G who is their Corvette Sales Manager. Kenny and I would talk at 10:30 pm on Saturday about my build and information pertaining to a custom order - World Class service and a guy who genuinely loves corvettes as he drives one himself. Can't wait to catch up with these two at Carlisle in August.
My car was delivered in 4 weeks, 6 days from order to delivery which blew my expectations away.
From the looks department (my build):
Torch Red exterior
Adrenaline Red interior
Black wheels
Red calipers
Painted Top & Mirrors
One of the other main reasons I purchased from MacMulkin besides beating any other prices I had received was they offer on site XPEL installation so the car would have a 0% chance of a rock chip going from dealer to installer. Their installer is XPEL certified and works on dozens of C7s per month. I chose package 4 which is the entire car besides the top halo area. The car also has ACS front splash guards, and OEM GM splash guards on the rear.
Vehicle comments during the 300 mile trip home to New Jersey:
- The car in Track mode (engine sound) is intoxicating - I can't wait to add my Borla X pipe sitting in my basement.
- The handling was superb. With temps in the lower 60s and the tires warm, the car glued to the highway and gave a very engaging driving experience.
- The tires: holy cow! The ride on the MPSS is insanely smooth. I couldn't believe how smooth the ride is in Sport mode with run flat tires no less. I wasn't expecting the ride to be that smooth honestly.
- Yes, I got caught in a 10 minute downpour - threw that baby in weather mode and again I couldn't believe how secure the vehicle was driving in what must've dropped one inch of rain in about 10 minutes. This is probably one of the nicest surprises if I should get stuck in rain the car is very easy to drive and maintain a decent speed on the road.
- The transmission: I played with the paddles and stabbed throttle and drove on back roads and highway, even got it up to some higher speeds and the A8 performed flawlessly. Not sure if its random issues people are having or that the late 2017 builds have it all figured out but the trans is fine.
- The interior: Chevy got it right, while it isn't as nice as say every German or Italian car on the road it is a big upgrade from my C6. I am more than satisfied.
- The technology: Having had recent experiences with a 2016 Mercedes, 2016 Lexus, 2015 BMW, 2014 Porsche, the Corvette/Mylink system is very good. The Android Auto is excellent as I can use Google Maps and soon to be Waze (in beta testing) through the info screen. Customization was very easy and the system is very responsive. The rear camera quality could be better and I wish the car had blind spot monitoring but not issues that I would dock the car for.
- SPEED! While I haven't taken it above 4000 RPM - the car is quite responsive and feels fast, I can't wait until I cross another 200 miles and finish up the 500 mile break in. Even when giving it a little throttle quickly to get it up to 4K RPM, I am grinning ear to ear.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and feel Chevy hit a home run on the C7, and especially on the Z06 and GS, the wide body IMO is the only body style of the C7 I would own, it holds itself well with exotics in the looks department, and oh yeah, performance too.
And without further adieu here is a pic of the car. I will have better pics up later this week. I just dropped it off to Auto Polishing Center in Waldwick, NJ for a ceramic coating. They are 1 of 2 companies in North America that are authorized to use Arctic Coating (http://www.arcticcoating.com/). It is a new ceramic coating on the market that is getting tons of looks. It will last for 5 years and more and more people are realizing the shine compared to Cquartz and Ceramic Pro is better. You can check out APC (Auto Polishing Center) on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/auto_polishing_center - They are regularly detailing all types of exotics + C7s and my car will be on their page in the next couple of days as I pick it up on Tuesday.
Thanks,
Mike

Both - while not sure how much protection it will add on the XPEL a lot of these ceramic coatings add 2 additional microns in thickness, while a typical wax coating measures in at less than 0.02 microns. Most clear coats are 35-50 microns. And as far appearance, it will keep the car having that deep gloss wet look for years. Water also virtually disappears when it hits the car. The coatings are hydrophobic.

Mike great review and your car looks AWESOME and you officially have it in your possession ! Now lets see how many times you go in and out of your garage today and the next couple of days. Congratulations and enjoy that TORCH REDBEAST!
Mike my current 2014 Stingray Z51 for another 3 weeks at the same angle as your picture but definitely NOT the same car as yours!

This is what arctic ceramic coating looks like over XPEL and paint correction on Torch Red. Honestly, the place that does it regularly does exotics (McLarens, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys, etc) he said he never saw a car pop more after working on it and coating it. He said Torch Red just looks insane arctic coated.
