Default Excessive tire wear on COTA parade laps

As part of the Corral at the COTA race this weekend, we were able to do three easy parade laps. Never got over 85 on the straights, and not real hot through the corners. Afterwards I noticed my tires got pretty chewed up. First time on the track for me, but seems like any hot laps would destroy a set of tires pretty quickly. All four looked similarly ragged. These are OEM Z51 Michelins.

It's hard to make a real judgement, but it almost looks like you just picked up some clag from the track after the tires warmed up a bit. Normally I'd expect to see feathering on the outer or inner edges of street tires on a street alignment, but I'm not really seeing that here.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

^^^ Pretty much agree 100% with your assesment here. I was there too and although some of the guys got going pretty good around the track on parade laps, this looks like pick up from the race cars. Normal driving should wear off the clag, but you may feel some vibration for a while until it does.

Yes you picked up the tire marbles from the race cars. It will take considerable time for this to go away. I drove home to dallas and still have large pieces on my tires. I also did the same laps at the September race and it does go away eventually. Just need to drive it more.
