Rookie question-HUD on 2017 GS 1LT
I'm comparing the build options on the Chevrolet website for 2017GS and for 1lt it shows the HUD as "Not available." If you cannot order it from the factory with this option, can a dealer add it aftermarket? Really it is only thing I want which is not standard in a 1lt but don't want to upgrade to a 2lt just for that. Thanks in advance for the help!

if it can by the time the dealer orders parts and windshield + labor you prob will pay more than the 2 lt and have a car ripped apart by the dealer

I have heard of and read about guys putting the HUD on a C5 so I assume it is possible. I am sure someone will chime in with more info. Ask your local dealer. I personally don't like the HUD, had it on my C5 and kept the resolution turned down so I never saw it. Good luck

Short answer is, no. Dealer will probably not install it. BUT, as Fourmat mentioned, it could be done at a cost likely to be more than the 2LT.
IMO, the 2LT is the best bang for the buck, and has a lot more features than just the HUD, i.e., better Bose/sub, heated/vented seats, etc. You might want to reconsider.
FWIW, I never owned a car w/HUD, and didn't think it was that big of a deal. I now have it and wouldn't think of getting a Vette without it. I never look down at the dash now, and the C7 HUD is better than previous Gens as far as resolution, or so I'm told.

I ordered my 2016 Z06 as a 2LZ and agree with sTz that trim level 2 is the best bang for the buck. I did add PDR/Nav because I wanted the PDR and originally planned on a 3LZ trim but since I ordered competition seats that removes the upgraded seat leather (an no reduction in price) and with the black interior I decided it wasn't worth paying the full difference for the upgraded dash leather.
I believe the HUD is standard in all trim levels for the Z06 but I would definitely order it. It is a nice feature that allows you to keep an eye on the most important parameters (speed and engine RPM) without looking away from the windshield. I have it in my 2014 daily driver ATS and also in my 2016 Z06 and miss it when driving my GMC 2500HD pickup. With all of the additional upgrades at the 2LT level I would seriously consider moving up.

I thought I had to have 2LT for HUD and heated/cooled seats. They are both unnecessary and you won't miss them if you never had them before. I recommend going 1LT and using the saved money for road trips.

Here's the hud install if you don't order it from the factory. LOL. Good luck with that.

I have the HUD in my C6 and not in my C7 and haven't missed it a single minute
Reason is that the regular gauges in the C7 can be customised to show everything that would be in the HUD. For me the main thing was to have a large digital speedo, which on the C6 was only available on the HUD, but on the C7 can be added to the regular gauges.
I suggest going to a dealer, take a seat in a C7 and play with the gauges for 15 minutes (after reading the online manual so you know how to work them). After that, you can make up your mind if the HUD is still necessary or not.

The HUD increases your vision of what is in front of you. No matter how you can configure the dash you still have to look down so you can't see what is 300 ft in front of you. Driving at 60 mph it only takes 3.4 seconds to go 300 ft. That may seem like a long time compared to an eye flick down and up but the eye flick takes at least a second for you to focus and interpret and you also lose the same amount of time when you look back up. If you are over 50 years old it takes even longer to refocus.

I have a 2lt with the Hud. If it did not have one, I would not miss it. I have been driving since 1977, this is the 1st car with it. The only time I use it is to see the radio favorites when using the steering wheel control.

I had a 3LT 2014 C7 and decided on a 2LT Grand Sport. There are several things I believe are essential to me. In order:
1) HUD. Had it on my C6, 2014 C7 and on the wife's BMW SUV-would not drive without it!
2) Lumbar support and automatic exit position with steering wheel up. Hard enough to get in and out of a Vette.
3) Sub Woofer! Missed that in my C6 and hard to add with Bose. The C7 is noisy and I have my ~1000 songs on a thumb drive that start playing automatically in shuffle mode as soon as I start the car. It's never off. The Sub Woofer helps drown out the tire and road noise!
4) Remote for my garage door!

Thanks All - no afternmarket HUD for sure!LOL
I appreciate all the different perspectives and those graphic pics all but blinded me! I never had a car with a HUD and I think the post of actually sitting in the car and the test drive will be the key for me...I had it burned in my mind that I would want the HUD no matter since all my previous sports cars were manual and I looked down to see the Tach a lot and found that distracting at high speeds...a little older and going to get an A8, if I do ever track the car it would be rare and not competitive so maybe I can do without the HUD. Thanks again - the forum is a wealth of knowledge and laughs!!!
