Paint defect, new Z06

I believe it's shoddy prep work to the new fascia prior to being painted.
all of our cars have the same bumper to fender gap. Zero.
why do some do it and some don't?
properly prepped paint adheres better. No flaking like the OP's.
just my opinion. Any thoughts?

I have never seen a car with this many problems. Cracked windshields. Body panels out of alignment..Torque Tubes..display problems.to many problems to list. All shoddy design and workmanship. No other generation has had this many serious problems. I drive alwYz with my fingers crossed. Who wants a new car repainted by some body shop. GM has always been GM. The cheapest Japanese car has none of these stupid problems. Yes I know there will be someone who will say " not mine" but for someone who spent good money on this Z06. Quality control and build stinks. Shame on GM for all these headaches customers have to endure.

Whatever excuses anyone wants to make, stuff like this is unacceptable on ANY brand new car. It wouldn't be acceptable on an entry level econobox, and certainly isn't acceptable on a Corvette... The fact it seems to be fairly common makes the issue even worse.

I have the same issue in the same place as several others here, the body seam near the left headlight--no problem on the right. It's more like the OP's and not quite as obvious as Joeybsyc's. I would likely have never noticed it had I not looked closely, and I'm not too concerned since it won't rust and likely won't get worse as long as I leave it alone. I'm thinking about rubbing some clear RTV in that area of the seam to keep things intact, but can't see disassembling everything for a repaint on a major body panel.

Picked up my Z06 today. Panel gap between the front bumper and drivers quarter panel near the headlight has an interference fit or was damaged during assembly.
Where the two edges meet has damaged the paint. Missing paint and loose paint flakes in the panel gap.
Would you want this fixed?

Common problem caused by body panels fitting too tightly and natural movement between panels.
I would just touch it up and leave it.
I have a couple of places like it on my 2014 and the good news is it has not gotten any worse.
Some panels like around the headlights are held by clips so even if they fix the paint, there does not appear to be an adjustment to keep it from happening again.

Wow I'm actually upset you posted this, I just checked my 17 z and it has that same rub on the driver side by the headlight. It's not near as bad as yours but it's for sure a bad design because it is rubbed off in that area....... grrrrrr

Went to the dealer.
Good news is they will warranty repair the bumper.
The bad news is they want to repaint the entire bumper and I cannot put Xpel on it for a month.
Anyone know why they cannot do a simple touch up?

Simple answer is they need to charge GM for their labor and material. Can't charge GM for a touch up brush. Here's my advice. You care far more than anyone who will work on your car. Google Mack sword striper 00 and order that brush. Have the dealer mix and give you the identical touch up paint, not the crap over the counter at their parts department. Touch it up yourself and call it a day. You certainly don't want to be on this forum in 2 years saying your dealership repaint job is flaking off due to crappy pre paint prep.

I agree its an adhesion problem or perhaps a curing issue since all C7's have tight gaps but not all have paint that is literally sliding off the panel ... that's ridiculous. Most vehicles have the front and rear bumper covers painted at another location and then shipped to the assembly line. I assume GM does save with Corvette. When I went on tour I do recall seeing separate racks of pre-painted bumper covers.

Man that sucks. I have been thinking about trading my GS on a Z06, but the GS is perfect. No issues. So it scares me trading into the unknown.

I hate reading posts like this. Paint problems have been the main reason I've been holding off purchasing a C7. Unfortunately, it will be next year sometime before black is probably painted in the new shop.
It's hard to tell if it's a paint adhesion problem or body panel settling problem since the cars are assembled off the ground. I don't recall seeing this problem on the C5 or C6.

I just washed my 4 day old GS and it has the same paint problem in the same 2 places.
I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow to see what they recommend to do.

I was not too thrilled about the dealer wanting to remove and repaint the entire bumper so I went to another dealer this morning.
I told him I would rather not have to repaint the entire bumper. He suggested to pop the panel clip in the corner to raise the bumper. Then lightly sand the missing paint area, mask, and air brush with base coat and clear. Buff to finish.
Decided to go with this repair technique.
Asked about a new painted bumper. They come primed from the factory.
