Tire wear indicator

It's just a line of rubber that connect one tread line to the next. When you wear the tire to the point the line is flush with the rest of the tire, it's about time to change them out. I keep a tread depth gauge in the garage and they work well..

thank you, this is good to know. I'll be checking my tires this weekend! 4,500 miles so far on my Z.

Felke, I got worried and ran to the car to take pics. Here's how my 4 tires look. Yes, I expect a lot more miles out of them!!!!

ALL DOT-approved street legal tires have wear indicators. They are required by regulation.

#6 & #8 - Tire wear indicators. Have to laugh since segment on our local news in Detroit yesterday talked about using a quarter. I do remember that from 50 years ago, however, have not used GW head for many years since they put tire wear indicators on the tires.
