Apple CarPlay! How often do you use it and is it worth it?

It's okay. It's not worth $1400. Voice recognition is dog ****. You have to use Apple Maps rather than Google maps. It's really quirky- some **** is just stupid.

I certainly could, but sometimes I want to take that call, and would rather not have clients on speakerphone. Also when engaged in a conversation with a client, and I want to get out of the car, it disrupts the flow of the conversation. I just find it better for me to use certain tools certain ways, and the phone is nothing more than a portable tool I prefer to keep as portable as possible.

the apple maps is far superior to the nav system (or any nav system I've had). especially since it starts to guess your destination after a while. (Based on previous habits and time of day)
it also shows traffic. Free.
the music app sucks.
It a hassle to to plug in to use.

Speaking of which, when I plug in my phone, it works just fine and then it can't find my phone 10 min later- if that long. I unplug it and plug it back in and all is right, for 10 minutes.
Is that a phone or car problem?

I'd been having problems with the connection as well but once I ordered a new original charger cord and plugged it in, it worked flawlessly right away. I'd tried my original 2 year old cord as well as several aftermarket cords promising high speed data transfer capabilities but none of them worked.
A brand new original cord is what it took.

I purposely waited until it was available in the 2016 model year to get my vette and use Car Play daily. I like the convenience and safety of voice to text and siri reading me my texts. Also use Apple Music and love the ability to listen to any song at the touch of the button. I liked it so much, I traded in my daily driver for a new daily driver that had Car Play.
The only thing I don't get is the carplay menu on the screen, nor do I get maps on the screen (if I asked siri for directions, she semi-mutes pandora whenever she talks and it comes out over the car speakers). Best part is (don't know if this has changed), but no cable either! I just keep my phone in my pocket and never take it out.

I plug my android phone in and use it every single time I get in any of my GM cars and trucks that have it and the corvette every time.
I love it. Could it be better? Yeah. But just being able to say 'Google take me to xxxxxxxxx' and it just does makes me feel like in driving k.i.t.t. lol

You don't really need car play for any of those things. I have a 2014, and I have the car read texts to me, play pandora over bluetooth, send texts from my car. You just hit the "other" phone button and it'll connect you to siri, then just tell her what you want (Uses the in-car microphone).

Hands free texting, voice navigation that works, all my playlists are in the cloud so they go where my phone is not where my car is. If you utilize the technology then yes it's worth it.....if you don't think you'll actually use it and you'll just look at the icon then no.....maybe if you buy it you'll be forced to throw the music to the cloud and wonder why you didn't do it sooner
Those are the reasons I use it every day. I even like the integration of Apple maps. The app hasn't failed me yet.Definitely worth it. Silly me I thought it was standard equipment on my 2016.

The topic of this thread is whether Apple CarPlay is worth it and do you use it...not whether CarPlay is better than Android Auto or vice versa. I personally carry an iphone 7 as well as a Samsung s8 so I don't need to get into a pissing contest on which is better. They both have good points and bad points.

It's just that your remark about Apple CarPlay being a more polished experience is pretty much what the Apple guy in that video had to say only to be upstaged by the superior performance of Android Auto in terms of navigation and sending texts.
Of course having and using CarPlay is better than nothing at all...true dat.
