New Corvette Sales Drop a Daunting 12 Percent
#21
Discounts? I thought the corvette was the best bang for the buck anytime anywhere. Buyers are smart to wait for discounts which have been offered every few months. GM has created its own problems. Either reduce the price of all corvettes evenly or stop with the discounts and let demand build without further enticements. The waiters will wait no longer and supply will decrease IMO.

1.2 Second generation (C2; 1963–1967) (5 years)
1.3 Third generation (C3; 1968–1982) (15 years)
1.4 Fourth generation (C4; 1984–1996) (13 years)
1.5 Fifth generation (C5; 1997–2004) (8 years)
1.6 Sixth generation (C6; 2005–2013) (9 years)
1.7 Seventh generation (C7; 2014–present)
I predict that the C7 will be around at least until 2020. The C8 will be a 2021 model or possibly later.

Entire market is down. US auto sales down 5% across the board and the C7 is heading into the 5th model year. You don't see this trend changing until the C8 comes out.

Given the overwhelming choice of automatics among buyers these days, I wonder if the much publicized GM A8 issue has anything to do with some of it.
Just Googling "GM A8" leads to endless tales of angst.

Anyone who waits to order until they know what the incentives will be at the time of delivery will never order, plain and simple; it's virtually impossible to take delivery during the same calendar month of placing the order. It never ceases to amaze me how many people out there wait and wait to get a "better deal" while the rest of us are enjoying our Corvettes. Why not just negotiate the best deal you can get and then order the car knowing that if there are additional incentives in place at the time of delivery they'll just be an added bonus?

very nice leases if
you want a C8 but want to drive a new C7 in the meantime.
i know i was really tempted but the old C6 still runs like a top with none of the issues so many C7 owners post.

Well, GM shoots themselves in the foot. in march was gonna be happy with a base vert. maybe black wheels a8 carbon badges red seats TR color as only options. around 56k.
first bullet: GM announced that base vert 18's will have an additional bennie of 19/20" wheels, for only $50 more!!!. Same as the big boy vettes. ooorah! ok, big wheels don't really matter right now; but in the out years, with no new vettes running 18/19's, tire companies will stop making better 18/19 tires, and start production curtailment of all the existing choices. meanwhile, 19/20's will get all the tire research, all the mass quantity production discounts, etc, etc. POW! to the 17 base vert.
Second Bullet. GM's April showers of discounts made me UP my budget!. Why not get a GS with level 2 luxury goodies, PLUS World class Z07 supercar brakes, world class refinements to the handling to out handle supercars costing twice as much etc etc, for only $10k more!!! ok, GM you got me hooked for $66k. But dreams ended April 30. Who woulda known that GM sales were so fantastic that they could take all the discounts off May 1? POW! to the GS lt2 j57 corvette loyalty owner rebate dream machine!
Bullet 3: Darn that GM taking off the John Deere $500 discount May 31. And me joining on May 2, and having to wait 30 days to get my discount certificate! POW!
Snake bit. that's what it is. But snakes grow cold and lifeless in the fall and winter. And i'll just cruise and cry in my "loyalty vette" until the cycle repeats.

Corvette sales have always diminished 4-5 model years after a complete re-design, that's typical. What is aggravating that drop-off now is all the rumors of a mid-engined Zora coming in a year or so or whatEVER, so a lot of buyers are going to simply wait and see. To some extent GM is creating this situation. If they kept the developing car under better wraps and or got it to market faster it would help.
I personally think the model being displaced by the Zora is the Z06, not the Stingray, Z-51 and GS models. I don't think the Zora is the C8 per say, although it could potentially serve as the basis for a future lower priced C8, maybe a Zora with less power. But I'll be surprised if GM abandons the rear drive front engine layout that makes this car SO easy to live with.
If the Corvette had as little room for my stuff as a Cayman, I wouldn't be driving it.
