Default Painting GS hood air induction

I am in the process of putting GS stripping on my GS convertible. I kick myself for not ordering the stripes when I ordered the car, but too late. I have the white stripes, but now need to paint the air induction grill for the hood. Has anyone done that? The body shop I talked to was not sure if they could paint it because I couldn't tell them what kind of materials it is made out of. I didn't think it would be that complicated

Any suggestions on getting it painted?

Thanks for any help or advice.

I had my stripe added post delivery too. The dealership simply took off my hood vent, painted it, and reinstalled it. It looks great, no problems at all.

FWIW, if I was going to add fender strips, thought I would use paint the matched my adrenaline red interior. Far prefer paint to vinyl. Would also have them use the approach I have for the darker silver flames I have on my silver Street Rod!

After masking, they painted the flame area black, I would have that be carbon flash. Then they used 1/8 inch masking tape over the black at the edge. When dry they painted the darker silver. That left an 1/8 inch black boarder. They then cleared over the finished flames - can't feel anything. Just a thought since your considering having the hood vent painted you might want to consider that approach with whatever edge color fits you car/strip colors.

The vent is painted carbon flash now so should be no problem. They will probably use an epoxy primary.

I think the body shop is afraid there will be some flex in the piece and the paint will crack or not stick.

Tell them GM painted them in carbon flash and it didn't peel! I'm sure they are at least as good.

I think if I explain that, they feel a little more comfortable. I am going to take the car over there. I couldn't understand why he seemed hesitant about it, but they do guarantee their work for the life of your ownership.

It's already painted from the factory .. they can just scuff, prime and paint it ...

Good morning. I am planning on having the hood vent painted after my stripes are put on next week. I am just guessing, but was the color they painted your hood vent the 2017 Artic White? Seems logical if you can't order a white stripe with a white (artic white) GS.

Yes it was and it is a perfect match to the decal stripe.

My car is admiral blue with a factory shark gray stinger. I ordered some shark gray paint form a paint specialist who used GM code to mix up the paint. Well, the paint didn't match at all - it was way to dark. So, I took the car to a local body shop where they used one of those paint match cameras. The color they came up with matchs perfectly. Trying to match paint to a vinyl decal can be difficult.

Since you can order cars with the body color vents, you could just order one already painted the correct color and change them out.

I don't really like the body color accents on the fender vents, so I thought about ordering the all black ones and just swapping them.
