Default My MGW shifter installed brief review

I had my MGW short throw shifter installed in my new GS CE by Kent Eismann @ Eismann Covette in Jupiter FL. Initially I watched all the install vids and just knew I'd screw something up. Was very impressed by Kent and his shop. He watched the vids on the MGW site for install.
All I can say is wow!! Before the stock shifter was, imo, sloppy. I often missed gates and had to search for right gear. I'm sure that due to my noobish M7 use. But let me tell you the MGW is amazing to shift. There is no hunting for the gate, it's just there all the time. It's noticeably crisp to engage, others describe it as a rifle bolt action. I'd say that's accurate.
Anyway, I love it!

I would like to try one, but like you would be leery of doing the install. Seems to be worth the cash.

I did my own install. I'm not very mechanically inclined but this was not that difficult. Took my time and also watched the install videos a few times.

Could you guys post a few pics of this mod. I have 1500 miles on my car and am planning on changing the trans fluid to get rid of some of the cold start hard shift into 2nd or slight grind. I have an awesome short throw setup in my Camaro, and I've heard so many of you rave about the MGW on the vette, I'm ready to buy.
Also, I plan on doing this myself. Any pointers by DIYers would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, one other question. I'm almost positive the answer is no, but any impact on my no lift shift?

Second edit: who would you recommend I buy this from? direct? Any vendors running sales?

I went with the flat stick set up. You can keep the stock look too if you prefer. There's no effect on no lift shifting. There's a ton of documentation, MGW has excellent videos, and at the top of the tech section, there's an outstanding thread with written instructions. That makes the install smooth because there aren't any surprises. Buy direct from MGW, I think they offer a forum discount.

I kept the stock shifter **** so you can't even tell the MGW is installed when you look at it. MGW has excellent installation instructions and videos. The toughest part is cutting the stock rubber boot and fitting it over the new shifter body. It is a very snug fit.

Thank you. Would prefer keeping stock look. I'm not knocking the vette factory setup, but it feels nothing like a sports car gearbox when I get out of my Camaro and get into my vette. And would love to finally put this annoying second gear roughness behind me too once and for all.

Nice job posting your pics. I just got mine delivered today. One issue I don't see addressed is how did you modify the original chrome ring on the boot to fit the flat stick grommet?

I installed mine on my 15 Z51. Now that I sold that and have a Z06, time to order another one!!

The install is easy, just take your time and lay all the part out on a sheet or something so it's all on there when you put it back together.. Enjoy!

Thanks. I like the idea of improved shifts, but I also like the looks of the stock shifter **** and maintaining the OEM look of the interior. Glad you can have both.

Surprised you didn't remove the MGW from your Z51 and reinstall the OEM shifter prior to selling. You could have then just installed the MGW in the new car. My MGW was in my C6Z, my 2015 C7Z and now my 17 C7Z. No need to give it away and buy a new one....

I have one on order (b/o). I have watched all the pertinent videos ('16 Z). I will do each process, watching video again for that step, then move on to next, etc. Each time going over next step video. Guy w/laptop or i-pads should be able to watch while in the car-right? I'm old school, have to come inside to PC each time! Gives me chance to cool off tho!

i just had mine installed. Probably paid too much $270.00 just for the install of 2hrs . It's perfect and I know it was done right. To me that's worth the money.
i would find a way to screw it up and be out of time and money.

I did it with my iPad in the car. The written instructions on here are really good, I had a printout of those with me too.

I have a brand-new MGW I was planning to install in my former c6z before a curveball came along. Do I understand correctly that I can just install it in my C7 Stingray without issues?
