New C7 Z06 3LZ 1st impressions
Just brought her home after waiting years and years. This is my 1st Corvette, 2017 C7 Z06 3LZ Manual Watkins Glen with Black interior. I'll try to keep it short and sweet for those who may be looking for themselves. Have not reached my 500 miles yet, but I hope others may find this useful.
Manual - So glad my father taught me when I wasyoung how to drive one. So glad that I went with this option as well. The clutch picks up about 1/2 way which is still taking me sometime to get used to. I was used to manuals that picked up closer to the floor, but this doesn't change my mind about it at all. The Rev Match is amazing. Makes down shifts soooo smooth. There is a nice, deep, exhaust pop each time you got down in gears (if you have the exhaust on at least Sport).
Exhaust - Yes it is sweet. I do find myself turning it on in the Settings for Sport all the time. For thoset hat don't already know, you can keep the deep, loud exhaust on even when you are in Weather Eco and Touring.
Torque - This was the main driver for me choosing the Z06. Stingray vs Z06, let's be honest, they are both incredibly fast to really utilize to their full potential on the street. You will go fast no matter which one you choose. They both can land you in the slammer if driven like a nut job. I don't plan on tracking that much, sothat plays a part in my explanations. Regardless of what gear you are in,(obviously staying out of 7th when going 15 mph), the pull on this thing is intoxicating. Again, I have not even hit my 500 mile break in, so my rpm limit is still about 1/2 of what it is capable of. I find myself gettingon it, and then going to the break quickly because of how fast you get up there in speed. This torque will never get boring. I rented a Stingray for 3 days, and never test drove a Z06. My wife and I just start laughing every time I find a straight away in 3rd gear and get on it. Trust me,there is a difference between the two.
Daily Driving - This was a concern I had inthe beginning before I placed my order, but all of that has completely gone away. I love taking this thing around town for errands or anything else. There is no issue with driving this daily, it is not too much car, it goes just like everything else. Again, if you want to mash the gas, then be prepared for the consequences. But in Touring mode, it rides fantastic.
Gas Mileage - SUCKS. No really it sucks. Like everyone says, you don't by it for that. I will admit, I kept in Eco for a few commutes to work, and it was pretty good for that. But really it sucks.
Memory Seats - Very cool. Never thought I would use it, but since it is there, I use it every time I get in and out. One note, when you are setting your exit, DO NOT move it all the way to the back where it will touch. Stay about 1/2 inch or so from the back. If you touch it for your Exit setting, when you click on 1 to get you to your driving position, it may not move.
Heated/Vented Seats - Heated is felt more when it is on, and works very well. Takes about 3-5 mins to really feel it. The vented are not actually blowing its own Air Conditioned cooled air on your rear/back, but rather uses the air that is inside the cabin (if I explained it well). So if it is actually 92 out, and you have the top off, it will be blowing that nice 92 degree air back into the seat/swamp. It works the best when the top is on, and the AC is cranking.
Taking the Top Off - Very simple to do. There is no rattling when the roof is on like I have read from previous years. I have no problem removing and putting on myself. 2 people not needed.
Break Dust - There will be lots of it. I do not have the Ceramics. Clean it off, and it comes back pretty quickly. I deal with it.
Cameras - works pretty good. If you want the front camera to go on, you have to put it in reverse, then back into 1st. I have used the front a few times and it served it's purpose well. I still find myself turning around when in reverse, just can't seem to get used to going somewhere and not looking in that actual direction.
Sound/Radio - Bose are ok/good. The Bass is very good at some points, and others can't hear too much. This is a lot to do with the content. If I have music from the 70s on, source material may limit the low hits. I do have the woofer in there. Then change the channel and some other more modern song will have your doors buzzing. You will not only hear, but feel the bass. Again, depends on the material. Rear speakers are so so.
I am sure I will have more to come as I become more familiar with the car, but without a doubt, this is the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever driven by a long shot.
Hope someone may find some benefit to reading this, help them determine if this is for them or not.

Congrats on the beast. And nice review. It gets even more fun once the break-in miles are behind you.
Oh - and brake dust - swap out the pads to either Carbotech 1521 or Powerstop Z26 pads, and watch 90%+ of the dust go away, and still have silent brakes. I did that in the first few hundred miles of getting mine and no regrets. If you track the car, you can put the stock pads back on, or use aftermarket track pads.
If you want to experience gas mileage that truly sucks, I'll give you a ride in my '68 GTO convertible. She makes half the power of your new rig, and uses twice the fuel to do it. LOL.
Enjoy and be safe.

The front cameras will come on with the touch screen icon. You have to almost come to a stop to turn them on. But it is easier than doing the reverse thing.

Lived with my Z51 pads for over 6 months. Cleaned the wheels every two trips into town (100 miles) or they not only looked bad the dust was pitting my black wheels. Switched to cearamic brake pads and 80 to 85% less dust. The dust that was there did not cause pitting. Cleaned wheels only when I washed the car.
When I got the Grand Sport home changed to ceramic pads with 30 miles on the car. Easy to do. Past my 500 miles last weekend and wheels looked great.
Agree, foolish to wait.

Nice review. Enjoy the Z06 which I am sure is a monster which I never want to drive. Cuz I think one drive in a Z06 will cause me to not like my base and I currently am very happy with my car.

The car is capable of very good mileage. It all depends on how aggressive you are with the throttle.

If the brake pads are the same as the Z51 (I think they are), get rid of them now and put good street pads on. Seriously, do it now. I used the Powerstop Z26 pads and couldn't be happier.
