Trade 2016 Z51 3LT for 2018 Grand Sport 3LT or 2018 Z06 3LZ without Z07?
I'm going to trade my 2016 Z51 3LT for either a 2018 Grand Sport 3LT or Z06 3LZ. I don't intend on tracking my car. I'd just like a wide-body Corvette.
The Grand Sport that I configured via the Chevrolet web site has MSRP at $88,970. It is fully loaded but without the Z07 option. To move to a Z06 without the Z07 option, the MSRP is $101,830. To move to a Z06 with the Z07 option brings it to $112,820. And yes I know the web site is reflecting the 2017 configuration options and pricing but is still useful for this simple comparison.
Frankly my current car is powerful enough for this 60 year old. However, I often suffer from wishing I had bought the most car that I could. That's why I'm considering the Z06. Having paid over $100K for several cars before (Porsche 911 Carrera S and BMW M6) and watched the rapid depreciation, I'm a bit reluctant to spend that kind of money again.
My question for the forum members is whether the Z06 without the Z07 option is too much of a compromise for a Z06. Will I have wished that I had went ahead and got the Z07 option. Should I stick with the Grand Sport without the Z07 option.
Sorry for throwing out so many questions, but before I pull the trigger I need to convince myself I'm purchasing the right car. I'm hoping your advice will help.
Thanks!

Just get a slightly used Z06/7.

Sounds like money is not that big of an object, so if I were you I would go for the Z06 3LZ without the Z07 pkg. I say without the Z07 pkg. because you do not have intentions of tracking the car. Z07 comes with the Cup 2 tires that have almost no tread and if you drive the car mostly for cruising you will be going through tires like crazy.

You sound like me. If you are not going to track it, and just like to point and shoot once in a while, I would buy the Z06 without the Z07 option. Believe me when I tell you it won't be too much car for you. The Grand Sport is a great car, but for you go with the Z06 and never look back. This is all based on the information you provided about yourself. Thank you.
(I just might go with the ZR1 when I get the date it will be available. Also it may be too much track oriented for me based on the fact I'm not going to track it. But that extra horse power might be good for my propensity to point and shoot when the urge hits.

Melting Slicks
For myself I am thinking going with a minimal loaded 2LZ unless I find a really good discount on one with Z07.

Also there are stil brand new 2016 Z06's out there. You might get a great deal and 0% financing.

I just went on a cruise after a car show in my 3LZ non Z07 today. Spirited driving. A UGR Lamborghini, 3 or 4 vipers and a bunch of other fast cars.
I had no issues holding my own. In fact the guy running the cruise asked my buddy and I to please stay towards the front.. why? Because we had two of the faster cars lol
I came from an 08 LS3 car that was a mid 11 second at about 121mph in the 1/4. This car even though it may only trap 129 or 130 feels like a legit supercar amongst super cars. Leaves me wanting for nothing, honestly.
get a Z06 if you want to be in awe of the car. Nothing wrong with the GS. It's beautiful. But I've driven plenty of C7s even modified and they cannot replicate what this car does. And the power is usable if temps aren't a factor. You just need to know how to apply the throttle vs opening a C7 LT1 car up whenever. Only real difference. That and the warp speed you experience.
Z06 LT4 is an awesome powerplant. Especially when paired with the A8. Maybe not the endurance champ on a road course but does fine on the open road lol

Safety Car
sorry if I add to the confusion
I would go with the GS;
a. It is all the Z is without the power
b. You can always find reasonable ways to enhance the hp in the gs up to
Z levels with all of the comforts of the 3lt
You can't go wrong either way............

Burning Brakes
I've been loving every minute of my GS 3LT Convertible with the Z07 package. Sure, the tires will be done after ~7,500 miles, but I don't have to put the same ones back on it. Unlikely it will see the track aside from a Track Night in America event because I'm not going to put a roll bar in it, maybe an autocross or two.
For me, the Z07 was about getting the FE7 suspension. The CCBs are nice and should last indefinitely, not to mention less unsprung rotational mass. It makes for a nice drive to work.

Definitely go Z06, lightly used, and just see what you can find - with or without Z07. These cars, even with 3LZ are findable in the mid to high $70's, with under 6k miles.

You can get ccb without Z07 but it be tough to find in less you ordered it that way.
look at it this way. Without tracking car regularly being an issue. The Z06 rides better without the Z07. And the stock Z06 is a race car already. You'll never want for more power with it but with a GS you probably will. Part of the allure of this car is the fact that it can bite you if you disrespect it.
sort of like that girl you dated that everyone told you to watch out for. Taboo. Excitement.
You want total control? Go GS. Car will never hurt you in the dry. But a month in when you go wide open you'll say to yourself fast... but not wicked fast.
Thats why so many people who go from a stingray to a GS have buyer's remorse. Putting so much more chassis under same power is like training wheels.
the stock vette brings more excitement in a driving experience because it's more on the limit of adhesion. Just my experience with them. Always said if I went stingray would have to be M7 to make it somewhat exhilarating (after experiencing the LT4)
