Easy. Amazing what a limited slip differential and sticky tires will do. I owned 2 Neon SRT4s at one point. On street tires, one ran low 11's with all of the creature comforts and the other on drags ran low 10's. Yeah they were econoboxes but they were incredibly fun to drive.

I had 2 rice burners when young. One was a 240z when it was known as a Datsun. The other was a Toyota Supra. Then i got married, had kids, college expenses, weddings, etc. Done with all that and now it is my time again. After 6 years the only thing holding the Datsun body panels together was the paint. When a HS teenager i had a 1957 Ford 6, 3 in the tree. Put Cherry bomb glass packs on it to make some noise no matter how bad it sounded. Like the kids do today with their rice burners. No bucket seats in those days but the bench seats were great for making out.

Plus 3 Subarus during my child rearing days. But always swooned over corvettes

I don't feel blessed to have a corvette. I earned every penny it took to get a vette the old fashioned hard way. I worked for it.

So you ridicule the kids of today for the similar things when you were a kid?? Ironic...

Some of these "rice burners" will smoke a Z06 in a straight-line. I know a guy in MN whose STI ran a 9.x second 1/4 mile at 140mph... Lots of 800-1000hp Evos out there too.

I can't tell you how many times I used to mess around with Vettes and exotics in my '05 Dodge Neon SRT-4(made 430whp in '07 btw), just to try to get a reaction out of them. I LOVED getting revs from them or having them downshift and take off, or having them give me a thumbs up and beeps when I kept up with them in my little Neon.

Now that I have a C7Z, I'm generous in giving out revs or a quick little punch when people look for it. A car guy is a car guy, regardless of what they're driving.

And OP had the nerve to call someone else condescending?
and you are the the type of condescending mouth offs that think you're better than most of the hard working people here. I wasn't ridiculing them.

I'm glad this thread came up. It's a reminder to all of us, that we all started where the kids of today started, unless Daddy bought it for you. I certainly drove or rode in some of the biggest pieces of junk with loud mufflers to ever hit the roads when I was their age.

Someday, they will drive their dream car, too. What you are seeing is not going to be their last car. Give them a break, be friendly, show a little interest even, and maybe that dream car for them will be a Corvette.

Michael

They can be 10 second cars and will shock and embarrass you street or strip.

Ask me how I know...
Yep, have a customer that modifies heads and builds manifolds etc using TIG welding. He has examples on his website of ~3 Liter (and smaller cid engines) making 100+ more hp than an LT4!

In my former life had a phone tech who had worked in Miami and they had gas pumps selling 115 octane racing fuel that some of these high hp small engines need.

Yep would not be so eager to just laugh them off!

My fear is the earlier thread discussed here about the vette owner who only blipped his motor back only to see the other vehicle lose control and get in a wreck that ran head on to another car and I think killed one or more of the passengers. Perception of the other drivers at the light was that the two were racing and the vette owner was initially charged with the same charges as the driver. I think he eventually got off but it made me reluctant to play any games with these yahoos.

For every 10 Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement bone heads we see and laugh about, there are one or two true enthusiast kids out there that can teach us a thing or two. Ran my 1LE Camaro both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Met a few kids with old, beat up Miatas and Integras. Low paying jobs, borrowed car haulers and handed down parts, but man, they were some of the most helpful and courteous participants there. They had a passion, and just wanted to learn and do better at every session. Some of their cars didn't survive the weekend (six 20 minute and a seventh 45 minute all-out sessions both days take a huge toll on old, worn down parts), but these kids were great. Once they were out of the event, they would jump on a buddy's car to help. These types of kids are still the exception in this new generation, but I have a lot of respect for them. I thought the couple of Porsche Carrera egos I bruised with my 1LE would be the high point of my weekend, but seeing these kids work so hard to succeed was better.

*Hint: Want to see an otherwise respectable gentleman throw a hissy fit? Ride the rear end of his $100k Carrera on the track in your $44k Camaro 1LE until he gets flagged for blocking you and not pointing you to pass. It's usually the same thought process, and goes something like this: "It's a V8 Camaro, but of course he's on my whale tail in the straights, wait until I turn.... Oh wow, he's still right on my whale tail after that sweeping right.... Well, now I'm just not going to let him pass in that hillbilly mobile.... Oh poppycock, I'm the one getting flagged for not letting him pass? He's the aggressor..."
Of course I'm being a bit facetious, but based on my track experience over the years, Porsche guys, in general (I'm sure if you have one, you're a lot more courteous) hate letting others pass.

No, it's not. Honda seems to make 8-10 iterations of the Civic alone. They look different but have the same name. BMWs have different numbers but all look the same. From the side I can tell the difference between a Cayman/Boxster and a 911, but forget figuring out which 911 is which without a badge.

I envy these young bucks for one very morbid reason - When I am dead and gone they will get to see (and maybe own) C 11's, 12's, 13's ect ect ect. Concept cars at this point, that I will not get to see............

I have read a lot of threads over the years with similar stories. These kids are just having trying to have a little fun with their cars. (hopefully not street racing) These kids are the future of our hobby so I do not make fun of them. When I was that age I did some dumb things too.

Threads like this are one of the reasons some people think Vette drivers are elitist.

I will never understand the appeal of ricers. Its like they know what expensive cars look and sound like. They know that the owner of the new corvette OR benz, BMW etc.. could buy there car, yet they still try to show off in front of them. Makes zero sense

Funny that I was just discussing this same topic with 2 of my friends who have C7-Z06's - I just recently purchased my C7 Grand Sport. With my C5 it was not so prominent with everyone and their father trying to egg you on. It really seems that C7's are more of a target with, not only little ricers, but with Beemers and Audi's.

I was driving my GS minding my damn business on a highway and all of a sudden a 30something or 40something year old decided that his MDX (yes I mean Acura MDX family mobile) was faster than my GS. He'd take off and pull back beside me - takes off and pulls back - I finally had had enough and dropped it into 4th and well Buhhbye!!!!! I then just went back down to regular speed. The dude did it again!!! This time I was near my exit so I spanked him again and got off the exit.

I don't know whether its because I am a female and they think I don't know how to drive or its a GS and purple or whatever! A Corolla was doing the same to me on my way home.

And its not just young boys that are car enthusiasts

Truly I would never go up against a Lambo or Ferrari.
