Front license plate laws

Melting Slicks
I live in Texas where it is required to have a front license plate. I really hate the idea of putting on the front of my GS. I know Texas has had several attempts to get rid of front plates in the legislature, but it always gets shot down for some reason.
What is the fine for not having it? I have seen some put it in there windshield, but I don't think that meets the requirements.
Anyone here in Texas (or any state that requires front plates) go without? What ideas do you have as an alternative?

I'd just mount it like that and worry about something else.
Oh, see post #100 above for photo examples.

I agree. Insulting any officer who pulls you over is not the path to being let off with a warning!
Here in California we are required to have a front plate. When I bought my GS, the stealership made me sign a form acknowledging that I was aware of that fact, and they were providing, but not going to install the front plate holder for me. In other words, it's the buyer/owner's responsibility and they were covering their A.
That having been said, I've owned two Corvettes now since January of 2010 and have never installed a front plate. On the days I drive my Vette to work, I literally go right past the police station and have never been stopped.
I respect LEO and am a law abiding citizen... except for this one thing! If I were pulled over for this reason, I'd just accept my punishment. Although, I truly hope the police here in the SF bay area have, as the old saying goes, better things to do with their time than run down scofflaws.

My son in New York State has his front plate mounted very low with a bracket on the splitter of his car. You barely notice it, and there's nothing to worry about. (Actually, it is probably illegally low, but odds of any LEO getting out a tape measure are likely less than zero.)
I'd just mount it like that and worry about something else.

That's the one I use, and it's great quality product. No drill installation and on and off in 2 seconds.

I'm probably jinxing my self, but this is my 7 Vette over 30 years and I never have run the NY mandatory front plate. I have been asked a couple time during a "roadside chat" with LEOs Where is your front plate? I tell them in the trunk and normally thats the end of it & occasionally get told put it on.
Never had a problem going out of state in this regard. As far as in my state it appears the closer you get to NY City the more Mickey Mouse the cops are. Up North where I live they do not seen to be too bad about the missing plate. My LEO shooting buddies I have talked with say they normally do not consider it that bad of a problem. A couple of them drive the cars that have the plate reader on them and they laugh and say something like "well if the front sensors do not grab your plate the back one will most times''.

Mine travels in the cargo net with the snap pins in place. I can install it if need be. So far never had the issue in the Z06.

I think you can get by with no plate with some local police but the state troopers take it seriously... It just amazes me how many people will go to great lengths to install removable plates or just not put one on, when the aero plate mount looks fine.

You are amazed for the wrong reasons.
A removable solution like the Sto-N-Sho that I posted above on my car, costs $75 or so, and only requires removal of 2 OEM undertray screws to install and less than 5 minutes of one's time. After that, it's on and off in 2 seconds.
I don't call that "great lengths." It also looks better not blocking the grille.
Yes, it will. They have a model that fits the Z06 over the splitter, so it will most certainly work on the GS.

20 years in CO where a front plate is required and not one ticket. I’d be fine if I did get a ticket occasionally and still wouldn’t put a plate on the front.

For Zymurgy...... I pulled the front license plate mount from my new, yet to be license plated C7:
I may just put the front on the dashboard:

Is anyone running a bug screen under the plastic grille?
It looks to me as I'd need to remove the base splitter, or R & R the grille to do so.
The front license plates starve the radiator to a large degree from incoming air flow.

In my state, you WILL receive many, very expensive citations if you don't run a front plate. It just screams, "PULL ME OVER NOW" in this state and many others.
There are no fix-it tickets, and you almost never see anyone running without one. Those who do for a short period get them on very quickly. Many have tried with the same defiant attitude as yours and given up. You could easily be talking $500 or more a month for your no front plate fetish.
Why is it so difficult to understand that things are not the same in all places?
