Intrusion alarm for convertible
I know the alarm will only work with it turned on, the windows down, and the top up.I have read that on the coupes you can over ride it so it will work with the targa off. How can it be "tricked" so it will work with the convertible top down? I heard the switches are not in the same place as a coupe.
Thanks!!

Nope.
No known way to enable the intrusion/inclination alarm when the Vert top is down.
No one has yet been able to identify where the "switch" is on a Vert.

makes absolutely ZERO sense to me why GM did this on both models.

no option for a proximity alarm? I had one back in the day on my convertible mini truck...you reach over the door threshold and it went off

Before you get out of the car press the button and it will tell you in the dash display if the alarm is on or off, you can turn it on or off with the button.

Exactly. I think it normally resets to the "armed" position by default. It works for me when the top is down.

So, those of you who say the intrusion alarm is active with the top down, can you reach into the cockpit of the car and set the alarm off?
If so, EXACTLY what steps do you take, so the intrusion alarm is active with the top down?

Lisa, methinks, there's some bad info being tossed around above. I agree the intrusion alarm doesn't work with the top down.
If someone was waiting in the car with the top down and door locked, that was probably the motion detector setting off the alarm.

Sorry to say I agree..... from everything I have read, neither the coupe or vert, will work with the top off or down. From my understanding the coupe has a switch in the header on the drivers side that can be fooled by placing something into the hole. There has to be a way to get the vert to work with top down.
I do know about the switch on the dash to turn it on and off. I can reach in the open window, with the top up, and set the alarm off. But it will not do it with the top down under any circumstance.

Yes, I will gladly say I was wrong, if someone can show us how it can be done, but so far, it's a no-go.

Is it possible it is different on different years?
The dealer told me it works with the top down
I bought both a coupe and a vert about a week apart I was under the impression it would work. I haven't yet removed the targa top but the Vert is down in Florida and my Mother drops the top all the time. I was under the impression it was protected!

It is protected for motion but not intrusion. The intrusion is so sensitive that if a leaf falls in the car it can set the alarm off. I and others have been looking for three years for a way to have it arm with the top down. So far no luck.

Still, the situation will result in the car making noise...
