Hidden Compartment: When Might it Not Operate?
I had a question I was hoping someone could answer. I just bought my first c7 and am still learning about the car.
I noticed that the switch which opens the hidden compartment behind the infotainment screen doesn't work from time-to-time (outside of the 'valet mode' being active). It sometimes doesn't work after I'm about to exit the car - or at least this is when I noticed it happening. Does the car need to be in any particular configuration before working (ex. car turned on, accessory mode on, etc) or should it operate always?
Does If there is something inside the compartment which might come to rest against the back of the panel, would this cause the door not to operate? I have an extra large cell phone that barely fits in the compartment.
I'm trying to rule out 'operator error' before considering visiting the dealer.
Thanks!

If you have opened the driver side door that will shut off power and prevent it from opening or if you sat in the car long enough after ignition off that RAP timed out that would also keep it from opening.
I don't use mine a lot because when I had a 2008 CTS with a similar hidden compartment a number of people started running into issues with the cable wearing and causing display glitches and outages. It may not be a problem with the C7 assuming the cable design and construction will hold up to a high level of cycling.

A lot of great information here - many of these could be the culprit.
I am in the habit of backing my car in to parking spots and leaving the car in reverse. I also may have turned off the car and opened the door prior to trying to open the compartment. I'll keep these in mind then next time I drive. I really do appreciate all the great tips. Thanks again!

Hasn't happened but once, pushed the start button and the hidden compartment door opened instead (LOL), surprise. That was with my 2014, the later models now have a chrome start button, you can now tell the difference at a glance.
