Default Windshield Replacement

While cleaning my car today (16 vert) I noticed what appears to be hairline crack about 2" around in the extreme left hand upper corner.. Its almost undectable because of the black border surrounding the glass.

Anyway it looks like a stress crack not a rock chip, but in any event it needs to be replaced. Can anyone enlighten me that has had to go through a windshield replacement?
Should I take to the dealer for replacement?
How will it affect the hud
How long should it take
I'm of the strong opinion that it should be replaced with OEM glass
I have Allstate insurance and at this time I don't know what their policy on glass replacement is.

If it's a stress crack I would think it should be a warranty item.

And have them inspect the surround closely, there have been some reports of debris or other things in the corners that can lead to stress cracks if not cleaned up. Search the forums and you will see other reports.

And make sure they have the replacement glass before they remove it.

If you have HUD make sure you get the correct windshield. I'm on my 3rd windshield.

I had an autobody shop do it and I ordered a OEM windshield. Safelite came twice and BOTH windshields were defective. GO OEM!!!!

I have had the exact same problem. My dealer has installed two replacement OEM windshields with HUD. Unfortunately, each one of them has had distortion defects. Be careful! Make sure that you fully inspect it before you leave the lot. Good luck, I'm going too another dealership to hopefully get an acceptable replacement for mine. Yours should definitely be covered by warranty.

Mine just developed a stress crack on the upper right corner - I watched as I saw a small (what looked like a small slice about 1/8") go down about 3" and across & towards the middle about 6" - went to the dealer this morning and they took pictures - not a chip in sight near or around the area....looks like a stress crack period. However, midday I got a call & they want the car back for more pictures -- the dealer is on my side but remains to be seen what and how it gets done -- I just did a Safelite Replace Quote @ $859.00 with Tax & Disposal Fee to be added
I'd go OEM and hope for the best, but I will look at it before they replace it - does anyone know what to look for BEFORE the install ?

2015 - convertible - 35,000 miles

Will be interesting how much out of pocket expense cost you will incur with your extended warranty coverage. Factor that amount verses your insurance company deductible charge.

I also purchased the extended warranty with no deductible. It covers everything except glass. You might want to check for that exclusion.

I had a bad start to my morning yesterday, I was walking by my car in my garage which had sat all week and as I walked by the driver side noticed a crack in the upper left-hand corner of the windshield. It is also a HUD car. It appears to be a stress crack, only the inside pain is cracked and there does not appear to be any kind of an impact. Called the dealer yesterday, they said to bring it by for them to inspect it to see if the warranty will cover it. I just hate to have my new car worked on and taken apart, kind of takes away the newness.

tell me about it, had it done 3 times. It gives you a miserable feeling knowing what has to be done to get the old out and the new in. Fortunately for me everything turned out just fine. Make sure your new glass does not have an distortion issues. Good luck!

2016 Z51 Long Beach Red .. Had my Vette into Criswell Corvette in Maryland.
Had the 3 tranny flush . Okay for now . Had them check the brakes for wabble.
They replaced the front rotors .. Had them check a small crack upper right
about 3inches in the right. corner of the front windshield .. Determined it was a
inner stress crack , no rock chip and will replace it when I call for an appointment.
All of these covered under warrantee . Have 18 months left on bumper to bumper .
I am mentoring the A8 problem if the V4 vibration persists the Torque Converter will be replaced .. . .
