[VIDEO] 2018 Corvette ZR1 Convertible Prototypes Now Wearing Chrome Wheels

These “on the road” sightings of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 prototypes always seem to come in batches, and now just like that we have two recent videos to share showing the smaller wing ZR1 Convertibles on the streets of Michigan.

At the beginning of May, a reader captured what we think is the best view yet that the smaller wing ZR1 represents the first active aerodynamics system for the C7. That prototype Coupe was wearing the swirl wrap camouflage only on the rear upper fascia and most likely the front fascia was wrapped.

In both of the following videos taken on June 3rd and June 6th, the 2018 Corvette ZR1 Convertible prototypes are seen fully wrapped in the swirl from head to toe. Not only that, I am pretty sure this is the first time we are seeing the now common star-patterned wheel design in either chrome or polished aluminum.

Here are some stills:

Three days later, another 2018 Corvette ZR1 Convertible Prototype was spotted fueling up at a gas station. Based on the sound, we would have to agree that there is an automatic transmission in this one. The

who took the video gave his best boxing night introduction:

Still no word on when the Corvette ZR1s will be unveiled and their true purpose revealed. The consensus is still Road America in August. Stay tuned!

They do seem to go back a few gens. But, if it's meant to be "camo" wheels, I think it's a success!

Top end current '17 Z06's go for $110K+

So I'll add +$6K for vert & $20 - 25K for ZR1

maybe $140 - $150K + fully loaded...

I'd guess the MSRP will be in the $135-140K range. Too much for my wallet.

My next question is how much more horsepower than Z06?
Maybe Z06 prices will come down a little more, then price premium from Z51 is not much more for the almost 200 hp increase...

Plus it looks like there won't be any front fender spats.

Plus, for those still shopping a Z06, the deals for that model will only get better.

These cars are everywhere. They must be almost done. Surprised there is no official announcement yet, you'd normally not see this many just out in the open.

I feel like this was supposed to be announced at Detroit, Chicago or New York and just wasn't for some strange reason. Like it will be announced and then on sale immediately.

AND as a bonus, that front end is much more chip resistant than the current front end. I like it....a lot.

I'm guessing that, unlike the current Z06, the front ZR1 fascia is wider than the Stingray's, to match up with wider, spatless ZR1 front fenders.

This would also mean that the new front fascia would *not* bolt-on/match up with current Z06 front fenders, squashing a lot of plans people had to upgrade to the new front fascia by a simple swap.
