Just as most everyone has said here, nope, not repairable. Here's mine at 650 miles. I purchased the 4 year tire repair warranty; dealer ordered new tire without question (had to wait 4 days for it to get here, but that's life).

Anyone have any ideas as to where I can get the best deal on a stock GS tire?

www.tirerack.com

good luck getting it mounted.
My local discount tire managed to damage a rear wheel on my GS pretty bad trying to mount the tire back on.
Long story short... They got me a new wheel and the store manager had to mount the tire himself.

You could try these guys. They might have tires they have pulled off.

Anyone successfully patched a run flat?
I had the exact same thing in the driver's rear at about 2100 miles.

They would not patch it because it was on the tread too close to the edge (sidewall).

Took the dealership I went to about 4 hours to mount the new tire and balance it successfully. Just a warning.

I was at my local Costco asking if they could change my tires without damaging the wheels when the time came and the guy started rambling off prices for tires. I really didn't pay attention because that wasn't my question, but I think he said fronts would be $335 and rears would be $379? Pretty sure about the front price and both prices were in the 3's. Still not convinced to trust them not to screw up the rims though.

Is that metal shavings from the rim across from the valve stem?

A screw is not as bad as a screw driver.... Is this too close to the sidewall?

Thanks to everyone for the advice! I think I'm going to just let the dealership do it. I have to get a paint chip fixed anyway. What a PITA!

Forget about dealerships doing tire work on a Corvette. Get a new tire from TireRack and go to one of their recommended tire shops to get it done. The recommended tire shop in my area took about 10 minutes to remove the old tire, put on the new one, check the balance, put it back on the tire machine to rotate the tire to it's optimal position on the rim and final balance the assembly. It all about having the proper equipment and a skilled technician.

I think I'm going to just let the dealership do it.

You must be a gluten for punishment.

FWIW, looking at your pic the "dealer" will just sell you a new tire. At least they are responsible for properly mounting, but look carefully at the rim when completed.

The large Chevy/BMW/Mercedes dealer in town does not do low profile run flats themselves. Even if they have a touch-less tire mounting machine, takes more than that! A Certifed Trained C7 Tech would do so few he would not develop the skill, IMO! That local dealer brings their run flats to the same Firestone dealer in town I have brought my Vettes to for years. They have 12 service bays and ~15 to 18 technicians. Only 2 or 3 are assigned to Vette tires! They don't want to pay for damaged rims. They have one touch-less (expensive) tire machine. Have watched the tech deal with these wide Vette rear tires. Give them a tip when done!

The Firestone dealer is one shown by Tirerack as authorized to mount tires bought from them. Have done that and they have also matched the Tirerack price. Usually 20 to 25% under msrp, which is what a dealer will charge.

I suggest calling a few tire shops. The good shops will work with you and help prorate the cost of the tire. If your tire is essentially new, they can often work with Michelin to get you a new tire for 80-90% off but you have to discuss with them. Doesn't always work but often times it does.

Well, three hours at my Dealer today and they came back and told me they couldn't get any air to stay in the new tire. They said they have never had this happen before.

They tried to take the wheel to Firestone but they said they don't like working on wider Corvette tires. They wound up taking the wheel to Jack Williams. One hour later, same story. The new tire won't seal apparently.

So my car is on a lift until next week.

I had new tires installed last week. Took 5hrs to get new tires and alignment. The tech said he spent 2hrs on one tire getting the bead to seal and hold air. He says he gets calls from dealers asking him how he gets the tires to seal. The stiff narrow sidewalls make it real difficult.

The key to sealing is good lubrication first.

This graphic may help. Basically, you can't plug-patch in the "Major" area.

And here's a second opinion that's a little more forgiving, but I think yours was still in the "no" zone:

With 700 miles on mine, I had the exact same nail in the exact same location. $500 something at the dealer. Less than an hour. Sucks but happens.

I had a screw in my rear tire at about 1K miles. My local tire shop (All Weather Tire in Huntington, LI) dismounted the tire, ground the inside to prep for a patch, installed the patch, remounted and re balanced the tire. Still fine. Had the tire been near end of life, I would have aired it up, had a weekend of turning it into a slick, and then replaced them.

Crap, I remember reading this thread when it started thinking "that sucks". And then today I even heard a pop, and sure enough got a screw in my rear tire but it's in the middle of the tread/minor repair zone. Was going to go to dealer but that'll be a pia and they'll probably try to make me buy a new tire, so local repair shop for me on this one.
