Anyone successfully patched a run flat?
New tire in your future. If it is near the sidewall, most tire shops won’t touch it.

You must be a gluten for punishment.

Only if he’s gluten intolerant. But, he may be a glutton for punishment as well.:

Patches in tires like ours are likely to be just fine for the life of the tire; BUT, most manufactures warn they are no longer "speed rated" after being patched. Some manufacturer's will stand behind a speed rating of less than 100 MPH on a patch tire, most avoid any speed rating at all.

If I was going to track, race, or go above 100 mph in my car (in any circumstance), I'd opt for a new tire (which looks like was the choice you made)!

I have a patch and ran 5 HPDE days with no problem. But your position near the sidewall is probably non-fixable.

I forgot I posted this thread.

Interesting enough, the same tire (2nd one, practically new) went flat as soon as I took the car out of the garage this Spring. That makes it two years in a row that this has happened.

I took it to the local Jack Williams and they took one look at the car and said they didn't want to risk putting it on a lift. They sent me to another JW which is their performance center.

Turns out I had THREE nails in the tire! One at the beginning of the tread and two in the middle. They patched all three and said that's pretty much it for patching that tire. Only charged me $21.

I'll use them until next spring and then I'm going to throw something else on.

Wheel & Tire insurance takes care of it. I’ve used mine once in almost two years, Screw in tire. New tire for $75 plus tax. I’m happy...it’s worth it.

I had a screw in my driver side rear tire at 1400 miles, so it looks like we need to get some tinfoil conspiracy hats to figure out why so many low mileage 'vettes are picking up an unrepairable punctures in the LH rear ...
Dealer wanted $350 for tire alone, NO warranty or pro rata discount.
Discount Tire worked with me to get a prorated discount, plus rotate/balance/repair insurance for ALL FOUR tires the car for $320... They're as good a shop as I've found and have been using them since the '90s.

I picked up screws in both rear tires. I plugged them both myself with a $2 Slime plug kit from Walmart. 25,000 miles now and no issues.

Fix-a-Flat (Slime) is only meant as a temporary repair, and will screw up your TPS if left in the tire indefinitely . It is only sensor-safe if cleaned ASAP.

Sure, the label says sensor-safe, but read the instructions.

From personal experience. The same thing happened to me! No reputable tire store will agree to repair that because of liability issues. And do you want to think about a potentially inadequate repair at speed?

I know what all of you feel. I too picked up a small screw in the pass rear. I even got a e-mail. Said the tire ,gave the location, had 15 #of air. I didn't read the message till I got home from changing the summer to the winter tires for the 2017 we have. The dash said I had a low tire,15#, went and aired the tire. Then went to get tires switched. Rolling the tire in question back to the trunk of car #2 , I noticed the small screw in the middle of the tire. The dealership did not sound like they wanted to fix it. They did say it was a speed tire, and patching will have a effect on how fast I go, no more 140 for that tire. Just need to get to a shop and get it fixed.
Your picture of the nail made me smile. NOT for your nail problem, and I feel sorry we pick up these things. But looking at the pic, I see it is in the area of the Michelin Man. He has a smile, he is either laughing at you or is saying I have this covered with his hand. Best on your fix, and good you are still aired up.
One thing, I bought winter tires for the GS last winter, the summer only would freeze here. I see now, Michelin makes a all season. I haven't looked into it yet. Has anyone seen these? Has anyone run them, how are they?

I’ve seen that before. That’s a very funny video. The guy is prying on the rim and gouging the paint. Nice.

I don't know how effective it is, but he states in the video, that they use a plastic cover over the rim to prevent damage.

You can see the plastic cover on the tool. That can easily prevent damage to the rim. Look at the tools that come with any of the tire machines. They all have some sort of plastic or teflon cover to prevent rim damage. There is no such thing as touchless.

Just picked up a screw in the no-repair zone passenger side rear. Covered by road hazard service plan - this time. Purchased the plan when I bought new. Lesson learned after to many damaged tires on previous Vettes. To many times to count. And expensive. These tires are magnets!

You know way more than I do about vettes Bill, but I will respectfully disagree on the last point. If you watch Youtube videos of the Hunter Revolution you will clearly see that the machine never touches the rim. They accomplish that last pull on the tire, to get it to seat, without touching the rim. It can be done. I've spent most of my career designing automated machines and you wouldn't believe some of the things you can do. Believe me I was tortured with many ideas a salesman came up with the I had to make work.

Same here. From the edge of the tire tread to a point bout 2 inches in (towards the center of the tried thread) is a non-repairable area. Twice I've picked up a screw and a nail in that "dead zone".

BUZZAR.....With only 720 miles on my Stingray, I picked up a 3 1/2 inch deck screw this past week. Couldn’t believe it. I haven’t had a flat tire in 10 years. The screw was so long and straight in it almost touched thr rim. Dealership wanted $485 to replace the tire. I called Discount Tire....they offered me a road hazard coverage on all 4 tires and a replacement for this tire for $290. Must be a trend going on.....don’t get it....my guardian bell off the Harely didn’t save me, but I’m sure glad I didn’t just let the stealership rip me off once again.
