Default Should I mod or upgrade to a Grand Sport

I have a 2016 Z51. I like it- I added carbon dash, splitter and side and a Z06 grill. I am getting ready to add DSC mag ride + controller (I don't have mag ride), Z06 brakes and get wider wheels and tires. Probably about $11k all in.

Then I began wondering, can I trade my car in and get a Grand Sport for $11k more? It might take a few months before I can find a used Grand Sport (especially a manual in a color I like). If I did, I'd have everything I wanted, less a plug and play controller.

Mod?
Upgrade?
Think I could swap for $11k?

Well, you can certainly find a used '16 Z51 w/ MSRC for a lot less than that.

Keep what you have and enjoy it. If you really want to upgrade, expect to incur a loss in the form of negative equity!

Get some quotes for trading to new Grand Sport and see what the price difference really is. I say trade for new.

I am looking into the same thing, but trading a GS on Z06. The loss in equity isn't as bad as I thought. However, I like my GS so much I am not sure I will go through with it.

I'm usually a "Keep what you have" responder. In your case, no, I'd trade. You probably will like the GS better than the Z51 and, there's always the residual value issue. You'll lose more than $11K by modding the Z51. Ironically it will be worth less than a virgin Z51 and the $11K will be gone. On the other hand, you'll keep all of the value in the GS less normal depreciation.

Without doubt I would upgrade, no way would I spend 11k for mods when you can upgrade for that kind of money.

Have you seen the posts from people having trouble with shocks leaking on magnetic ride?

I was going to trade Stingray for GS, for the wide body, but decided there were more things I did not want, like Mag. ride, eLSD, bigger brakes, navigation, etc., so I kept what I have.

Upgrade. If it's what you want (the widebody, mag ride etc).

I did it from an 08 to my 16Z06. I was looking into a procharger and some other things and by the time I figured things out on paper it made sense to upgrade to a C7. Then I went a step further and went to a Z06 realizing I would want to do similar things to the base Z51 (widebody, procharger etc) so I just but the bullet and did it in one shot.

if it isn't going to break you financially remember, you only get one chance at this life, there's no dress rehearsals. Do it right first time. Never know how long we have. Need to enjoy life as much as possible within reason.

You will be far far better off trading up to a GS than putting all that money into mods on your '16 Z51! I just traded my '16 1LT (FE2) Convertible in on a new 1LT GS Coupe. The dealer put some serious money in on my trade and with the discount and rebates it only cost me $6200 + tax and fees.

Do both!

Just added up and have already spent $2100 so far on mods (mostly cosmetic) for my 3 week old Grand Sport and removed ~$2000 worth of mods from the 2014 Z51 I sold that I have partly installed already.

This weekend reached 500 miles so changed oil and while the car was on jack stands added Stage 3 winglets on the Stage 2 aero packarge, FANG skid pad protectors and an interesting product by ZL1Addons, Splitter Guard metal cone washers! The company owner said some NASCAR teams are using them!

Trade. if the $11K is already a forgone expenditure. Even if you had to add another couple thou$and, your getting a newer car in the trade and the extra year's warranty w/o gambling that your mods won't disallow a future warranty issue.

You can count the number of people reporting that here on the fingers of one hand for the C7. Several of them were people reporting problems on their C5s or 6s. On the other hand, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of testimonials about how great it is.

I can think of 2 dozen or more problems reported here with much greater frequency than leaking MSRC shocks. Almost no one experiences that problem. All shocks are fluid-filled and can leak on rare occasion.

Yeah, spending the money (plus time to jack with it) is going to happen.

I'll just have to wait until there are some used grand sports on the market.

There already are used grand sports on the market.

You can see 66 used ones here. $61,811 for the cheapest one.

Of course more will be coming....

I would upgrade too. New ones are under $60K. But you are likely gonna take a big hit on your Z51...
