Default New car smell/stink

650 miles on my 2017 Z-51 A8 and every time I get out after driving, I smell fish.
Seriously......fish.

What's up with that?

Never heard it described quite that way but it is strong. It gets better over time. I don't know of a way to stop it, its the materials out-gassing. May be other out-gassing going on, too. Sorry... Kidding.

I guess you just gotta take it out for some long, fast rides with the windows down and top off/down.

I don't have the problem, but this is the best air freshener I've found

Waiting until 1,000 miles to hit the redline...

Weird. I though mine smelled great. Loved how the whole garage smelled for the first three months of ownership.

Pops taught me how to do body work many years ago and the new smell of the Corvette reminds me of the smell of bondo (similar composition of materials I suppose). At any rate, I couldn't remember smelling it in another C7 that I had sat in and was concerned that mine might have been damaged and repaired (hence the smell of body filler/bondo). After checking out a few more new C7s, I quickly realized that's the typical new car smell for them. So I agree with the OP that it is an odd smell, but I don't link the odor to an amine/fish odor, but odor it is subjective.

Default "Smells like victory"

No not napalm but one of those unique odors that mark new car ownership.....any cats following you "purr" chance?

I treat my interior with Zaino leather conditioner. Though the 1lt and 2lt cars have coated leather, I've found that the Zanio adds a great leather-like smell to the interior.

When we did the factory tour in Bowling Green, at the entrance everyone noticed the fishy ocean smell that the tour guide explained was due to the paint factory, so perhaps it's some kind of paint residue? However I don't notice any fishy smell in my 1 month old C7, only a strong chemical smell that others have said smells good like a new car should.

My 3LZ smelled great... different leather, but otherwise shouldn't they all smell about the same? I always thought it was the leather, plastics, and adhesives you were smelling.

No fish here!

I've seen similar threads where some don't like the smell, but it's the first that someone said it smells like fish. My car still has that "new car" smell after a year.

If your car smells like fish, then there is something wrong... I'd first look for possible leaks/wet carpet. While I haven't heard of any complaints regarding GM vehicles, Dodge/Ram was using an antifreeze that had a fishy smell. GL finding the sourse.

My new car smell was overwhelming for the first few months, so much so I had to drive with windows down at least the first couple miles each trip. Now after 6 months it's a 'normal' new car smell. I wouldn't say fishy but certainly different than any other new car.

I thought it smelled like burning plastic in a closed garage the first time I got it home. Slowly got better. I still swear I notice it once in awhile after 2 years and 10k miles. Interior still smells new too, for better or worse. Never thought it was fishy smells, but my sense of smell is terrible.

11 months, 11,000 miles and I still have the new car smell. Particularly noticeable after wiping down the interior with a damp microfiber cloth as part of routine cleaning.

I actually love the "new car smell" and hope it sticks around a while.

Both my C6 (when new) and now my C7 have that "raw fiberglass" smell when they sit closed-up in the garage. My C6 kept the smell all 10 years I owned it. I never minded it.

None here either. My last car was a 3LT and it smelled very leathery, I think mostly because there's much more leather than a 1LT/2LT. My current 2LT has more of a chemical odor, but most people comment on the "new car smell," and it doesn't bother me.

I guess no one paid attention to my post.

I said that when I get OUT of the car, not while I'm in it.

When I in it it smells great like fresh leather. When I get out of the car, the smell emanating from under the car, under the hood and even the back end of the car smells like fish.

I do appreciate all the replies though thank you.

I kind of miss that glue smell, just not the overwhelming intensity of it when it was brand new.
