Default Awesome Cross Beam Adapters

Hey everyone, I just wanted a sec to thank Jim at Smith Fabrication http://smithfabrication.webs.com/ for making me a set of custom Cross beam Adapters for my C7 Grandsport. All he needed was some precise measurements for my particular jack setup and they fit perfect.

If your looking for some definitely hit him up.

This allows you to lift the front or rear of the car from the center with one floor jack. Then you can put jack stands under it to keep it up.

I thought the jacking points were only on the outside of the frame where the shipping tie down points were located? Guess I'm missing something.

What kind of jack is it designed to work with? Would a low profile jack still be low enough to get it under the car with the front splitter?

Just looked them up and think they attach to a jack not the car and catch both jacking/lifting points at the same time.

As far as what jack they work on, Jim made mine for a harbor freight 2 ton low profile jack, and on the website it says he needs the pin size of your jack to fit.

As as far as making it under the splitter I usually drive up on my ramps a bit so I never worry about it.

I will post some pics tomorrow for everyone

Perfectly reasonable to jack from there. Then you place the jack stands at the ends of the cross members. If I have to put my car on jack stands at the track that is how I get it up on 4 jack stands. Jack left side until both wheels are off the ground, place jackstands then jack right side until both wheels are off the ground and place jackstands.

Is it just a block of steel with a rubber pad on it?

FWIW, this is a PDF I made about jacking a C7: http://netwelding.com/Jacking_A_C7.pdf

It includes how I made a cross brace from a 2X6 for my C6 and narrowed for my C7. I normally jack from the sides and use jack stands under the ends of the front cross member. Works fine for an oil change. When I need it jacked higher I put the cross brace on my larger jack and can fit to install whatever.

The C7 uses hollow cast aluminum cross members. Unlike the sold ones in my C6 you are not supposed to lift in the center of all but one in the front. That one is hard to reach. None are to be lifted in the center in the rear, per GM.

The PDF has safety precautions including how a hydraulic jack must move in as you jack to keep the jack saddle under the jack pad, it not it can slip off! Not good! Recently made a special saddle with a cup so it can pull in my large jack. That is covered as well.

Pic of homemade cross brace and GM lifting locations (colored for clarity from Service Manual) Top pic is suggestion for modifying a ~$40 Harbor Fright Cross Beam to fit the narrow C7 requirement. A poster seeing this suggestion said why not just remove the sliding parts and Gorilla glue rubber pads ~12 inches apart on the top. Someone used old flip-flop soles-cleaver! Best ideas come from suggestions by others. Love round-robin brainstorming!

They are steel tubing with a center pin that is sized to fit your particular jack. The top has a 1500 psi piece of neoprene attached.

That's a lot of coin for 2 pieces of rubbber and 2 hollow rectangular pieces of steel!
