Default Do you take your C7 on sales calls or to see customers?

I guess they are the same thing except a sales call is a hopeful customer and a customer has already bought. Anyway I don't do it. I tried it a couple of times and they all look like I must be charging them to much money to afford a car like that. Which really kind of sux because I do like driving it but I also like making money to pay for it and other things.

Another thing I don't do is take it to rent houses I own. Those people are the worse about making comments and the very worse are section 8 people you know the ones what the govt(us) pay up to 90% sometimes more of their rent. I **** you not this one chick with three kids and no old man said "well, I can see where my rent money is going" when she saw the car.

I just bit my tongue not to start slamming democrats and liberals and drove off.

What about ya'll do you drive your c7s to work or to see customers/tenants etc?

for the reasons you note, I think it is a bad idea.

I used to work in a high paying white collar job and many guys had high value cars.
Very few would drive them to the company offices because it was bad form to show off what they did with the big salary and bonus.

Drive the beater to collect rent

I live/work in SoCal so my little 2-door Chevy is no where near the top of the automotive food chain that fills the streets here. Six-figure cars are everywhere so not many even give my dd C7 a second glance.

I sometimes get a comment from a client stating that they now know why my hourly rate is so high. However, most of our clients make much more money than I do and drive much nicer cars.

If you want to slam democrats and liberals, feel free to start with me, as I am both. I too get money from the government, from Social Security which I've been paying into since 1969, and VA disability payments for service connected issues dating back 40 years. I also continue to work, so there's that. At least I'm not "those people..."

Happy motoring!

I drive mine everywhere, including to my rent houses, and no one says anything (except compliments, if anything).

No. I keep the whole Corvette thing fairly close to the vest. I usually drive the Tesla or Range Rover to/for work. It's not a money issue...I'm sure my ZR1 will cost less than either, but it's an imagine thing. I won't deny the image associated with Corvettes as some try so hard to do, frankly because I completely agree with it, and because I'm so far from the Corvette demographic.

I had a salesman years back that drove a Porsche 911. He chose to take a mileage allowance instead of a company car. It only got awkward if he took several of us to lunch - the customer had to drive.

No problem driving a Corvette on sales calls. I would not drive to a rent house unless in an upscale neighborhood.

Dont' want to get into a political discussion in Gen. But if you are getting social security and VA disability payments you paid into SS and you earned your disability by serving. The govt isn't doing **** for you you earned it. And on top that I appreciate your service in the military.

Now back to topic do you take your c7 to work?

hey the 911 has a small backseat. He just needs to sell to small dudes.

oh and all my rent houses are in high class neighborhoods.

I take mine to client meetings occasionally. Also in SoCal so I am no where near the top of the food chain. I couldn't care less what anyone thinks as I work very hard.

Had my own Engineering Company for 20 years and I found out it's best to drive your "beater" because some clients and customers resent seeing you in a Corvette or any nicer car. So why **** them off after all, they were my source of income.

Great post OP!

I am very careful about taking on sales calls...however recently it could not be avoided and I drove to my clients home. It was slightly rural and I was annoyed slightly that part of his driveway was dirt road and covered in many leaves and pine cones.... as I drove up the long driveway I see a brand new GrandSport sitting near the house. It was great color combo and we traded our vette stories, etc...made the sale that day!!!

Not quite the same thing as a sales call, but before I retired last week, I drove my Z51 to school and parked it right out front at the end of the first row of the staff parking area where anybody dropping off a kid could see it. I got lots of compliments on it from the students and a couple of them had the nerve to ask how a teacher could afford it. I said it cost me a couple dollars, laughed and then told them that if they finished school, went to college, got into a good career and worked hard, they too, could buy one some day.

None of the parents (taxpayers) ever asked me about it, though.

If you want people to know you are successful and will handle their account professionally and competently, then you need to look successfully. Can't do that in a Toyata Camary. JMO

Agree with you 100% OP. The only exception are my clients who are car people. Otherwise, my leased Traverse is just fine for meetings.

Years ago a client of mine, a very successful 20 something owner of a plumbing company, bought a new Viper to drive to work sites. This was mid 90's and the work sites were commercial and entire sub-divisions. He eventually went with a Lincoln Navigator due to scuttlebutt he was getting. That was OK, to drive an SUV worth more than the trade on his Viper!

People can be funny, but perception is hard to ignore.
