Default What's The Best Sealer To Use Instead Of Wax?

I'm thinking of switching to one of the new clear sealers instead of wax. Any opinions on which is the best, most durable and easy to apply?

This will generate many opinions. there are quite a few quality products. I'm sure a few very experienced people will chime in.
A few are Rejex, Adams, Wolfgang etc. Sealer is the way to go after you have properly prepped, polished!

I use Polish Angel Cosmic Glass Coat. Takes a while to put on and let cure but lasts around 18 months. Just wash and detail in between.

Blackfire Crystal Seal. Wipe on Walk away. After prepping the paint with a clay bar/mitt and polishing. I used Blackfire Total Polish and Seal and put it on with a Porter Cable random orbital polisher. Then the Crystal Seal. Took 15 minutes to do the entire car. Wait a couple hours and put on a second coat.

As previously stated so many products. C Quartz very good lasts a year supposedly. I sealed my car with opticoat gloss coat.

the best from what I've heard and seen with my own eyes for longevity and protection is Ceramic Pro.. Google that one. A buddy of mine has a body shop and also is a vendor certified to apply it (through the company). I first thought he was nuts. It's expensive. If my vette was left outside or daily driven I would have had him apply that. But mine just hangs in the climate controlled garage and leads a better life than me lol.

good luck.

easiest to apply - c quartz and opticoat gloss coat imo.

Try Mequires Fast Finish for a good shine and very easy application. It is easier to get than some of the above and cheaper.

I use Chemical Guys Jet Seal, lasts about a year. I use their Butterwax product every few months to give it even more protection and a deeper shine.

PW,

It's difficult to say which is the best or which one will last the longest. It's my hope that someone will do a head-to-head comparison and compare sealants, or waxes, or detailer sprays or polishes.

I like Blackfire Crystal Seal. VERY easy to apply. However, I clayed my car before applying. BCS is easily applied, dries quickly and easy to buff to a shine. The very slick feeling afterwards lasts for quite some time.

If you buy BCS, you can use their shipping box (see pic below) to store practically anything...okay, a little sarcasm, but the oversize shipping box was hilarious.

Enjoy the process and results of your actions.

Adams H2O Guard and Gloss is very easy to use but it's not as durable as most others. I have recently tried Poor Boys Polish with Sealant and am very pleased. It was fairly easy to use. I cleaned the car with nanoskin and then applied it using a standard wax applicator. It wiped off easy and left a very slick and shiny finish. My car doesn't sit outside much but it has been several months with no sign of deterioration or loss of water repellancy. I plan to put on a second coat this week. It is available at Amazon.

I've used Rejex for many years because it's easy on, easy off, lasts about 6 months, is smooth and shiny, and bugs come off easily. It can also be used on wheels and glass.

Most sealers are similar, just try one mentioned here and you'll like it compared to wax.

+1 on Rejex, just clay before applying, anything on the surface will be there for at least 6 months

I know from experience..... found water spots afterwards....

or if you are contemplating a ceramic coating, then the Adam's Ceramic Coating would fit the bill...................

the prior prep work is where the real work is at..................

Does a brand new car need to be clayed before being waxed or sealed? If so, are there different levels of clay bars (lighter for new finishes, more aggressive for older finishes)? Does claying scratch the finish? Thanks in advance.

Yes. Almost any car exposed to any amount of rain could use a good clay or nano scrub. Grab a cellophane pack off someone's cigarettes put two fingers inside and run it along you hood or roof. If it's smooth great. It won't be and you'll forever know the way to check a painted surface for contaminants.

We all have our favorites, and I like Blackfire all except their crystal seal. I have a bottle of it, that I used once and only once and on my black car it didn't dry clear even though I used it sparingly. I prefer Zaino's ZCS Clear--same wipe on and walk away, and works great over top of TPNS, and Blackfire's other products.

It depends--take a plastic grocery bag and wear it like a glove and lightly pass your hand over the car when clean. If it feels rough at all then you would benefit from clay barring the car.

I've had new cars that the paint was very rough, and others not. I don't think I had to clay my C7 when new, but it's been almost 2 1/2 years so I may have forgotten. My newest car is a 2016 CRV that I bought in October 2016, and that didn't need clay.

No harm provided you use plenty of lubricant (you should not even feel the clay as it glides over the paint surface), keep kneading the clay so you're working with a clean part, and if you drop the clay on the ground, do yourself a favor and throw that piece away. A piece of grit in the clay will leave scratches.
