Default Ugh, I feel sick but hopefully it's not going to break the bank

I hit a curb and did this to my baby...

Its just this black piece in front and fortunately not one thing else was injured...

What is that part called? Where is the best place to get it? Is it difficult to do yourself?

Its a 2016 z06.

Thank you guys in advance. I hope this post is not to forward. Its a bit rash and knee jerk as I cant believe I did something so stupid.

Yes I was looking at a text... so dumb...

It happens. If you go replica it will be easier on your pocket.

Go factory and you may need some whiskey. Either way it can all be replaced !

Damn, I did that too when someone parked so close to me that as I backed out of a spot, I nicked the curb since I was in the coveted end spot.

Cost me $600. The part is a winglet. Got it from Cultrag I think. Body shop installed it.

Thanks man I am starting to come down a bit.

Any idea what that is even called? I have been trying to find it on the web.

Oh thanks brother!

That's not too bad. At least the fasteners pulled away from the Stage 3 piece and not the splitter, which is good. I believe that C7 Carbon had the Stage 3 set for around $200. Installation is easy- 3 attachment points in the fender well, and the 2 that pulled away at the splitter.

If you go on eBay and search on C7 Splitter they are there for a lot less money and while I can't speak for quality they are a lot less $$. Probably you will need to have them painted as well.

Yea, it looks like the bolts stayed in the splitter and didn't damage the center piece. I would confirm that, those bolts just unscrew, make sure that part is solid and clean. If it is, then you just need the stage 3 winglets. There was a pair for sale from a guy in Canada not long ago in the for sale section of the forums, he may still have them. If not, as others say you can just pick up a set and they really just screw on, very simple to put in.

The stage 2 winglets you can't buy factory versions without buying the whole thing. But there are aftermarket ones. Stage 3, you can get factory ones if that is important.

Buy the parts from Cultrag or one of the other online GM Parts Vendors and install them yourself. All you need is a jack and jackstand to get the car far enough off the ground so you can access the bolts that go into the splitter from underneath the car. You will also need a couple of tools including a torx bit. The nuts to those two bolts are under the splitter and are blocked off by the air dam and something else. I can't remember just what all needs to be loosened/removed but it is obvious once you get the car in the air on that corner. It is more of a PIA than anything else since it seems like they could have made the parts so there was easier access to the nuts on the back side of the splitter.

I have done this three times twice due to mods I was making to the car and once due to damaging the cap. Already have the cap on the other side damaged due to hitting something I didn't see.

I know the feeling! That sucks.

"winglet" "spat" "extension"; a few names used for this piece.

GM "STAGE 3" FRONT SPLITTER EXTENSION KIT - GM (23184895)

unfortunately, these are only sold as a pair!

If you're handy you probably could undo the bolts, use a piece of plastic or metal strip with a couple of matching holes glued behind the edge of the winglet, and bolt it back together again with no cost other than an hour of your time. (IE: Repair, not replace.)

That is a Stage 3 winglet. However you have a carbon fiber splitter, you should have carbon fiber winglets. See a forum vendor has them discounted from $780 to "only" $550!

Yours don't even look painted and I see plan black on ebay for under $170.

I have ABS carbon flash painted Stage 3 winglets that I replaced my Stage 2 Winglets on my carbon flash OEM aero package. Got from forum vendor on sale for under $200. Perfect color match.

This is a 4 page PDF with lots of pics of my install that may be of help: http://netwelding.com/Stage_3_Winglets.pdf

Funny, before I had installed the Stage 3 winglets I pulled into a tight parking slot at a hospital. Pulled close to concrete island. When I left, I slightly scraped the passenger side Stage 2 winglet by turning the wheel too fast! No problem as I had the Stage 3 winglets ready to install. But the Stage 3 stick out 2 1/2 inches further! Am very careful if parking next to a concreate curb!

I almost got T-boned by a pickup last week because the driver was texting and ran a red light. I saw him and stopped in time, but he never even saw me giving him the finger.

I for one don't think I am being dramatic when I say I am not ready to die so that you can read your freaking text. On American roads in 2017 you need to drive a car exactly like I have always driven my bikes, because many people have no idea WTF is going on around them.

I agree with your comments and agree we all are most likely distracted in our cars from time to time. Texting, dialing a phone number, fiddling with the radio/navigation, eating, etc are all distractions that can lead to an accident. Unfortunately, there are probably only a very small number of people that can honestly say they haven't engagaged in these potentially distracting activities. Additionally, I do place a little difference between texting as you are slowly pulling into a parking space vs operating at higher speeds on a public road. Glad you weren't hurt!
