Default Different view on A8 vs M7

Not trying to stir the pot on which is best, just an observation that might change over time. I just traded my Z51 auto for a Grand Sport M7, while I enjoy the M7 better, seat of pants makes me think the auto was quicker. Maybe not driving the M7 right yet? Only got it Friday. Just seemed like the auto accelerated faster. Plus learning to be in the "right" gear will come with time I hope! Looks like fuel milage will be less, but who cares, lol. Both are great cars.

Auto is quicker....M7 should get better mileage. To me the M7 is just more fum to drive. But dang, those A8's are quick, as are the old A6's, I can say old now, right?
Both are nice cars, prefer the red myself. Enjoy!

Never had paddles. They are the Bomb..The left foot takes a break and your a faster shifter than Warren Johnson ever was
Ha..No mistakes. The car automatically downshifts to not hurt the engine with over revving.
You still have driver feel on manual mod. Then when your in that Kick Back Lazy Cruze Mod..Just SET IT AND FORGET IT

I feel exactly the same way. Traded my 2015 A8 Z51 for a Grand Sport M7 . I do have to admit the M7 is more fun to drive. I have only had it for one week and put about 500 miles on . All I want to do is go drive it. I love this car!

I just did the opposite. Just traded my c7 Z51 M7 for a Z06 A8. My wife didn't like the manual as much, but loves the auto. I enjoy both trans!

I prefer the M7, when you get used to it try the launch control with no lift shift and you will be smiling all day.

I just did the opposite, traded my '15 Z51 M7 for a '17 GS A8. My dd is an Audi Q5 which is a turbo 4 banger, and it's a completely different method of driving an auto than the GS, so I have to not only adapt from the M7 but adapt from a turbo 4 to a V8 with double the torque/HP as the shift and kick down points are drastically different.

It's been proven the A is quicker because no one can shift manually that fast.

All depends why you buy either.I personally have never owned an auto.Driving is part of my business and my pleasure,so I like shifting.

Gotta love these M7 vs. A8 threads, but I'll bite since I've lived with the M3 (C2), M4 (C2), M6 (C6), A8 (C7) and M7 (C7) and have firm opinions on the subject that I cannot supress. My 2015 A8 was a Stingray with the taller gear set. My current ride is a GS M7 and I tend to think the new car feels a tad faster, possibly because the wider tires give better traction and the gearing is 15% shorter. The MSRC might also be a factor, as my first C7 didn't have it. If it were slower I would still never go back to a slushbox as long as they have a manual option, as the M7 is so much more fun to drive, IMHO. The problems I had with the A8 and the fact that I really never warmed up to the auto like I hoped I would made me steer back on the path of righteousness. Gas mileage is about the same, as although the M7 might have an edge in economy with all other factors being equal, the gearing difference probably makes up for it.

Not really driving it unless you are shifting.

If you're not a housewife from the 1950's, then you made the right choice with the M7.

And there you go, I didn't see enough hatred and anger here, felt I needed to stir the pot.

Next week, we'll discuss black wheels vs chrome.

BTW, on a serious note, congrats on your beautiful car.

The A8 is quicker but a little less fun after a while. There's something exciting about banging gears in all situations except chronic traffic.

SORRY, really wasn't trying to stir the pot. Just seat of pants feel, no qualms going with the M7!

I know from reading the A8 is a hair quicker, just wasn't expecting to actually feel it.

There is no question the A8 is quicker, and that is not solely due to the faster upshifts.

Even in 1st gear the A8 has an advantage. That torque converter makes the 1st gear be a collection of ultrafast shorter than first gears cycling through. It makes the launch smoother and faster.
