Default Wow... disappointed...

Some of you may remember my thread just the other day. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-or-no-gs.html

I ended up going non-GS. Arctic White A8, 2018 model, black interior, black wheels, red calipers, NPP exhaust

So the dealer I work with had to dealer trade for it, they sent a driver to get it and I had it delivered to me today.

I drove it around for 15 minutes or so thinking it had a strong new car smell.

This thing REEKS of Gas inside. I mean wow. Something is absolutely wrong. I kept trying to convince myself it was new car smell or something. I have no idea how the lady that drove it for 6 hours over the past two days on the dealer trade is alive She did say it smelled "funny"

So I parked it in my garage when I first got it. I was taking a whizz in my front bathroom and I could smell straight gas (6 feet from garage door coming in).... nope going out to the driveway. It's been shut off for ~3 hours now and you can get 10 feet away and smell gas. I had wife, parents come over and make sure I'm not nuts. I'm not.

Anyone heard of this? Threads on the topic seem to go off-topic pretty fast.

That's annoying and frustrating.

But it will probably get repaired soon, not overnight like you might want but soon.

When it's fixed, enjoy!

Leaking fuel is a serious issue. Don't delay in getting this to your dealer ASAP. I had a fuel leak that required replacing the fuel sending unit. It was a major repair as it required dropping the saddle tanks which also required removing the rear end and torque tube. Good luck.

Oh it's definitely going in. I'm just frustrated having FINALLY bought a corvette I've been wanting since I was in highschool, stroking a big down payment check, being excited AF and then this happens. I can't even go drive it right now.

Strong new car smell, and funny smell is the typical new corvette smell as the adhesives are out gassing. It smells like a fiberglass boat factory. And will dissipate over time.
A gas smell is something entirely different.

If it's gas it could be related to the carbon canister or other fuel line components. The tanks sit behind the seats so it's very obvious.

Would not drive a car with an obvious fuel leak! Have the dealer send a flat bed.

I don't think I'd drive it if I was you. Since nearest dealer is only 2 miles, I would call them & ask for flatbed tow truck "OR" if they want to, they can send a brave soul to you to drive it back to dealer with you following-seriously! I wouldn't drive because A: Dangerous possibly B: They could blame you for knowingly driving an unsafe car if it damaged engine/caught fire. CRAP already posted, you're too fast. (See above)!

Let's hope it's something minor. No fuel leaking anywhere?

Dude that blows i wouldn't be happy. i don't think i would have drove it off the Lot smelling like gas. where did they do the dealer trade at? Maybe this is a sign you need to take that thing back and get the GS.

Have heard of related issues since 2004. Here's a C6 Sticky on topic. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=3563123
Not saying it's your problem.

So I just went out there now that the sun is down (TX) and it's not hot as *****, etc. No smell from outside the car anymore, seems to have dissipated. OK... so I get in the car. No smell, just smells like a new car, smells awesome.

OK, so now I wanna see if I'm nuts or what. Take it on a loop around the neighborhood. Literally 0.1 miles, 0.2 maybe.... gas smell is back. I parked it outside in the driveway and came in to go to bed. I'll be at the service department when they open in the morning. I didn't buy from this local dealer but any dealer loves warranty work that GM pays so what the hell, they should have a vested interest in finding and fixing whatever it is, right?

To the guy right above that said it's a sign I should have gotten the GS... fuuuuuuuu lol. You think that thought didn't cross my mind? lol

Nah, I love Arctic White with black wheels and red calipers. It's freaking gorgeous. Here's a pic if anyone is curious, of the ole' smelly gas turd.

Warranty issue... let the dealer sort it out.

Disappointing?? Absolutely. But these things happen, and this just happens to be your turn.

The good thing is that it's so very repeatable that the fix should be straightforward and permament, as this isn't a pervasive issue with the C7. The really difficult problems are those that only happen 'sometimes'.

Car is going back. Contract cancelled.... down payment returned. Glad I have connections at the dealer.

It's uncured fiberglass resin. Will not go away unless the car is completely stripped and baked (talking 3 weeks to a month in service). I'm taking route A and just considering it a sign that I need to continue the search. Not doing that on first day of ownership. No fkn way...
