Why are so many Corvette owners so cheap

I wouldn't own one, but only because I've had to work on various makes of German cars before.
Have a good one,

Some time ago, I was in the dentist's office. The parking lot was filled with BMW's and Porsche's. While the dental tech was cleaning my teeth, she decided to start a conversation.
Dental tech: Where are you going on vacation?
Me: I'm going up to Victoria B.C. with the Chevy club.
Dental tech: What kind of car do you have?
Me: A Corvette.
Dental tech: that's not a Chevy.

Every year down here in Naples Florida there's a huge car show sponsored by the Ferrari Club of Naples and they invite our Corvette Club of Naples among every other exotic and classic car clubs that will be there. There's always a huge amount of Porsche's as well. Interesting thing is that last February we had 50,000 people at this show and overall most compliments we Corvette owners get are from the Ferrari bunch. For some reason the Porsche folks don't seem to like us much even after parking in our spots and refusing to move their cars. It's not a "cheap" versus money thing but more like snobbery.

well i'm just a lowly design engineer and all i did was serve in the army, raise a family, put four girls thru college, pay off houses , run my own engineering company, get hosed buy a mean bitch ex wife and her swindler lawyers, finally meet a wonderful woman and scrounge enough to buy my first corvette. Cheap? No! Economically challenged, yes. i worked hard not like most of the porsche people who had it easy. i don't begrudge them one iota but cheap or frugal? I'd say "sensible" and wouldn't change a thing! Plus, i'll never back down from any of them. :d

I have a good friend with a 1999 911, the last one with the air cooled engine. Very nice car but when he tells me how he has "a real sports car" I just smile and say, "Yeah, but next to my Corvette it looks like a frog." He always shuts up after that!

I have an Audi A4 (hardly their most expensive car) and a 2016 Z06. Audi dealership experience is far, far superior - not even on the same planet.

I once was shopping for a car--not at my usual dealership--and the salesperson condescendingly asked, "So, is cost a consideration?" and I answered, "Of course. Cost is always a consideration," and walked.

This thread is crazy. Being one of the "lowly" people on the forum.. I am thankful that there are people that purchase new Corvettes and keep them well maintained with very low mileage. As I don't really want to purchase new, but with them selling them in a few years I can usually find what is the perfect one for me that I can afford more reasonable. Does not make one cheap, or low class, or frugal. It's life, everyone is different and spends money differently. If everyone was the same. We would still be watching TV by candle light and driving flinstones cars.
My wife has a BMW X1 x35<whatever> all wheel drive. When we go to BMW for service it is def. a different experience than when I go to the local Chevrolet dealership. Personally, I don't mind going to either. But yeah. There is a difference in how we are treated.

Not all Porsche buyers are 'rich ******', and I've owned BMWs and Mercedes, and I hope I'm not a rich *****, but that's for others to decide.
Cheap, spendthrift, whatever you want to call it....yes, I could be that.
But certainly from other's perspectives (like my friends who are millionaires yet drive Accords and Camry' s, and maybe from others who can't afford even a single car of any sort), I'm anything but....
So, as with everything in life, it's all a matter of perspective.

I personally think they are expensive but worth it! I look at them as a feat of engineering, high quality and a pleasure to drive.
All in all, dollars per mile are high so that causes them to fall into the "expensive" category.

Why do you have such a problem with this? Just because it's not expensive to you? Our cars are nothing special to most people. There are a lot of people that cannot afford one and some that just don't care. Some people would never spend more than 20k on a car like my roommate because it's just transportation to them. I work with a girl next to me that couldn't care less how much or what my car is and she has dated millionaires.
I probably shouldn't have one, but I have my housing figured out for now and i'm single. So, yes it is expensive to some people including me. I get asked a lot what I do for a living. I work hard to afford this. I just have other priorities at the moment and that could change any second. You'll always have people who perceive vettes in different ways. Nothing you can do about it.
