Default Performance Date Recorder Worth It?

It seems the performance data recorder is a neat idea, but how much is it really used by those who have it? I'll never drive a track, but it seems like it would be a nice thing to record twisty roads, etc. This is a big decision point between buying a 2LT or 3LT.

I have it on my 15 base coupe. Its cool to have on vacations, trips to memorable drives, like the Dragon and other cool drives we read about here. But in my daily life I hardly use it.

As for needing it, justifying it, or desiring it then that's personal and subjective. For me, I was ordering a new Corvette and wanted a luxury sports car rather than a lean mean sports car so I ordered a 3LT trim package and it came with the camera.

If its a dollar thing that guides your decision here's another way to look at it. How much per month does a $2K (or whatever value fits your situation) feature add to the payment? Is that a deal breaker?

Good luck! When you buy one, and you will I'm thinking, post some pictures. We love seeing pictures.

The PDR wasn't offered on 14's and I wish I had it.

There are cheaper and much better options. Google Blackvue. Just like the factory GPS there are better and cheaper options. I have the PDR now and wont do that again.

It is a nice gimmick. The camera's resolution is crappy but would I pay more for it?....no....

If you track your car, maybe a good investment for you....

Me, too. As long as I remember to turn it on It's programmed as one of my favorites, so often I'll look over at the radio and remember to turn it on that way.

I have it, glad that I have it, but seldom use it. As you know, it's packaged w/Nav, which I seldom use as well, but it was a clever marketing move by GM. I'm sure that there are some who purchased the package for the Nav, and the PDR was an added bonus- but bundled at a higher cost, and vice versa... wanted PDR, and got the Nav.

I also use it as a dashcam. I track my car as well and it is nice to have for that. I don't see it as a must have, but if you can find the car you want for a good price why not.

I track a decent bit and still didnt buy the PDR... I say it's mainly if you need NAV... with adroid auto (which works great btw) I didnt see the need to jump up in packages or pay for $1900 in nav and then PDR...

android auto came free on the 1LT and above.... and a data recorder or a GoPro is like a couple hundred bucks...

It is awesome if you track, but if you don't then you likely will never use it except for valet mode which is great.

I wish I had it for the valet mode benefit, but couldn't justify the price difference between a 2LT and a 3LT at the time.

Me either. I went with 2LT as it is the sweet spot imo.

Just to be clear, you know you don't need 3LT to get PDR, right?

I don't track my car, but i do live in a resort town that has an enormous amount of people that are distracted, and didn't know how to drive even before they became distracted.

I use it as a dash cam. Also good for those rare occaisons when i have to use a valet.
