Question about painting lettering on wheels
I was at a car show the other day and ran into a guy that does really killer pin striping. I told him I had been thinking about getting a red line painted around the edge of my wheels. (I have black powder coated stingray wheels) He mentioned that it may look better to paint the corvette lettering in the wheels instead. I agree with this, and wanted to know if anyone has done this and what they paid.
Thanks

He also has a cool tow hook.

He's saying wheels, not tires, which the above posts are. Many people have painted the "corvette" lettering on their wheels a color that matches their calipers or something with a nice contrast. I say go for it! I did red lettering on my tires and love the look.

I did mine LRG on chrome, and this color wasn't bright enough to be worth it.
Red, yellow or Laguna blue would stand out well on chrome or silver wheels. Any light color would stand out on black wheels.

Use a Sharpie Paint Pen. I did mine in red on the chrome. First time I did it I used a different brand and it faded after a month or so. I went over it with the Sharpie and it has been good for over a year now.

The guy I was talking to was talking about using the enamel paint he uses to stripe cars. He ballpark priced it around $30/wheel. I'm intrigued by the idea of a paint pen. Can you post some close pictures of your wheel lettering?

May achieve better results (especially long-term) by painting with a good quality spray paint such as Krylon, Plastic-coat or Duplicoat.
The 'Corvette" letters are recessed into the wheel so simply mask and tape-off all area around wheel, wheel and around wheel lettering, spray the letter area with desired color insuring to completely fill recess then quickly wipe off the raised area atop the letters with a paper towel with light solvent leaving only the newly painted recessed letters below.
Will take a little longer than using paint pen but should result in a more even and longer lasting job.

I've heard of people using Tester's paint for this as well. I think they used to sell it in Hobby shops for use on Models and such. Pretty sure if you do a search on the Forum, you'll find an old post on this. Good luck.

I've been thinking about painting the lettering on my chrome wheels red to match the calipers or black to match the body color. I'd love to see any pictures of wheels with this done.

Since your doing this on chrome if some gets outside of the indentation it cleans off very nicely when dry with 0000 steel wool. The really fine stuff. Also I put about 4 or 5 layers in the indentations. They don't take that long to dry between layers.

I put rim tape on my black wheels and filled in the script with Torch Red touch up paint.
The pin stripe tape was about $20 and the touch up paint was about $12. Took about 30 minutes to do all 4 wheels with the touch up paint.
The "Stripe it All" by Tapeworks took about an hour in total to do, as you need to jack up the car so you can spin the wheel by hand. Simple, and inexpensive. Holds up great !
And here's the ones I did on our 2016 Stingray to match the Laguna Blue ....... on chrome wheels....
