How safe is your C7
I have been debating on making a post about this and just now can because of litigations. I seen a post about Gm holding back on safety features on 2018. Well I can tell you your car is pretty darn safe!! I rented this corvette while I was on a trip in cali last Aug. Many people have prob seen this wreck it was on almost every corvette forum there was but not this picture my friend took this one. I don't remember anything from the wreck at all and very lucky to even be here. You would think after being in a wreck like that I wouldn't ever want to step in another vette again but It has been a dream car of mine and I still really want one. Gm built this car pretty dang good and thanks to them I'm still here and also the costa mesa fire department.

I figured a 2007 was safer than the 2004 motorcycle I sold when I got the car, and I'm optimistic that the 2017 is safer still.

What exactly happened ?Were you rear ended ? Glad you were able to walk away from this. Good luck on your search for a C7. I'm on my second year of owning mine and absolutely love everything about this car

I am glad you survived and will be driving another Corvette. From a safety standpoint the C7 has a lot of characteristics that greatly improve the odds of occupants surviving some pretty nasty accidents.
I have mixed emotions about too many safety nannies (collision avoidance, blind spot, etc.) because people too quickly rely upon these as another crutch that allows them to reduce their level of driving involvement and awareness. Many of these new safety features function best as an occasional driver assist but they are no substitute for proper attention and situational awareness. A good driver is constantly scanning the environment and using their knowledge, skills, and experience to identify potential situations and prepare to take proper action long before any safety warning occurs. A collision alert or automatic braking to avoid a crash because of what is happening in front doesn't do you a damned bit of good if a 100,000 pound semi is too close behind you to stop. An aware driver would have already been looking for alternatives (other lane, shoulder, etc. and would know which escape options are available). If you don't want to be an involved driver then lobby for more Amtrak subsidies so that you will have a rail option.

This is one of the times I'm glad I'm not a tall guy. I had a bad concussion, head was busted open, broke my hand, cuts on my arm from glass, cut on my forehead and eyelash from sunglasses. Im an active guy I workout a lot so not being able to for a few months I know have tight hamstrings trying to get that better.I get anxiety sometimes driving since the wreck happened out of know where. I think some dumbass is not paying attention for whatever and may hit me. I live in the DFW and traffic sucks.

according to the police repot I was on the exit ramp in traffic going between 0-5 mph and the truck rear ended me. A civic caused the wreck he turned into the truck and the truck sorta struck another truck then hit me. it said the truck was going like 35mph but how he got on top of the car like that at 35mph is beyond me.

DFW traffic can be brutal. I never have lived in the metroplex but I spent a lot of time there doing consulting work and nothing against DFW but it ranks in the top three from my perspective in its mix of rude and inattentive drivers. One of the groups I worked with in DFW was the international division of the national insurance crime bureau (the old auto theft/crime division) and pretty much all of their agents and personnel were former LEOs and most of them drove large SUVs for better visibility and a weight advantage over other cars.

You certainly had an Angel on your shoulder that day sir. Being an old LEO I've seen some nasty wrecks, and that one rates right up there. At 35 mph, the truck being higher than the Vette, it just broke through the rear panel and jumped up on top of the frame. So glad you're vertical instead of horizontal, and hope that your injuries will heal completely.

The biggest danger that the Corvette poses is the fact that it is so low to the ground. Most cars and any SUV is going to plow right over the side rails in any side collision and there isn't much to stop intrusion into the driver/passenger compartment. Front collisions also pose the same risk but not as much as a side impact. The safest place to get hit is from behind.

Very true.
All sports cars are now at this same disadvantage since the explosion in SUV/Truck sales in the US. My daily driver is a 1/2 ton PU and it dwarfs my car. My truck's bumpers are at head height for my car! A direct side collision would be devastating to the driver of any sports car.
My best friend almost died this way and I don't think most people really appreciate just how life changing something like that can be until they experience it themselves.
