Looks awesome. But frankly I'm siding with the haters. My last car, a Mazdaspeed 3, had smoked tail lights installed by the previous owner. They looked great, but weren't nearly this dark, you could still see red without the lights on. Your blacked out lights with the brakes applied are less visible than the photo with covers off and brakes not applied. A few areas are brighter, but overall, I see less red and the bright areas aren't that much brighter. I like the look, but I don't want to risk getting rear ended.

I agree, they look nice, but they do look darker, and in the photo with the brake lights applied they look dimmer than stock. Just my impression from reading about this and looking at the pictures. So if the OP thinks we are missing something, please explain it to us, I don't get it.

That's why I went with the attempted murder tail light inserts (see my post earlier in this thread). But I do like the look of those blacked out tail lights.

I have always been a big fan of blue dots myself. I love it when they come on red, and then turn purple.

What happens when you get rear ended and your insurance finds out you got blacked out taillights?

Looks great OP, thanks for sharing. With all this controversy, I figured maybe you posted graphic details of clubbing baby seals or beating helpless children or the elderly to a bloody pulp, so I went back and re-read your posts. Nope, just tail light covers on YOUR CAR, that is all, just some tail light covers.

I've had blacked out tail lights on my G8 and never once has anyone almost hit me. No one has ever complained about not being able to see my taillights. It's your car, do what you want. I'd be more concerned with someone having tint on front windshield, texting, eating, doing all sorts of stupid **** while driving. But to say that because of tinted tails u are going to cause an accident is absurd.

What about women putting on makeup while driving? People with large spoilers blocking rear view mirror visability ? People driving with under inflated tires? People driving with cars that need urgent repairs but refuse to repair them? People with cracks in their windshield? X pipes with the CATS removed and tuning it to pass emissions? I mean, these are all things people do or can do to their cars that endanger other people and environment. Do you want to ban everything? I mean lighten up a bit. It's not like he removed the taillights or took the bulbs out of his headlights. They still light up red just not as bright. Big deal. Be more concerned with a teenager texting n driving or leaving the bar or restaurant after a beer or 2.

Exactly, when allot of accidents are caused by texting not blackout taillights.

Exactly why you need all the protection you can get....
There are enough other people doing stupid stuff without adding to the problem..

By the way, that is why auto insurance rates keep going up....there are more accidents caused by people using electronic devices and driving distracted. My wife has been rear ended 3 times, and 2 of the times she was already stopped at red light or stop sign.

I think this mod looks really good and I was considering getting a set. I wouldn't ordinarily get involved in the 'right or wrong' opinions that go with mods like this on the forum, but did want to relate something that happened just yesterday.

My wife and I were coming back from lunch yesterday, following our neighbor's bright red GXXX Mercedes SUV (the boxy, expensive ones) up the canyon road to our neighborhood. When we were coming up on the left turn to go into our neighborhood, my wife said, with a kidding smile 'I guess I need to remind Karen what turn signals are'. Then she said 'her brake lights aren't working'. I looked hard, and saw that her signal was blinking and the right brake light was on - but they were blacked out (bright red with black wheels and blacked out lenses), and you could barely see them - and only if you looked hard at them. We were about 75 feet behind her.

What I learned from this for ME: those lenses are not going on my GS. What I learned about this for others (if others care. If not, that's okay by me): do what you want, doesn't matter to me. BUT, I would suggest that - rather than take a look at whether or not you can see the blacked out brake lights from 5 feet behind your C7 at the same height as the lights, that you instead follow someone driving your car from a following distance and see if you can really see them like you think you can.

If you still like 'em, knock yourself out and enjoy! But I'm glad I saw what I did before I ordered them.
