Loud Fan : Normal ?`
The wife and I were out all afternoon and on the way back, I noticed (from my seat) a loud whine. When I got home left the car running and it was LOUD. Is it supposed to be this loud ? it was really loud...

Living in AZ, with the hot summer we have, I can drive the '16 to Costco. When I get home, the electronic radiator fan runs loud, and for some minutes. My C6 did the same thing. So does my MINI S and my Jeep GC.
Normal.

The fan on my 14 sounds about like that.

Yes, I think that sounds normal.
I believe it is a variable speed fan and I noticed in Florida in 90 degree heat the fan ran at a very high speed ( loud) . I noticed in the driveway if I unloaded the engine by turning off the AC the fan speed reduced a bit and was quieter.
I had the service dept check it and they advised it was normal. In very hot weather with the AC running that fan really winds up and moves a lot of air.

As others noted very normal when temperatures are high; it is responding to a combination of high ambient temperature, engine heat load, and all of the heat being removed from the passenger cabin via the AC system and dumped into the airflow stream ahead of the radiator.
So don't be worried about a loud fan but you can help the cooling system by leaving the AC on recirc when it is very hot outside (reduces load because you aren't bringing in as much outside air) and when at a long traffic light bumping an auto transmission into neutral reduces engine load and allows it to run at slightly higher RPM increasing cooling system performance along with AC performance since the compressor is also being spun marginally faster.

If you think the stock set up is loud don't get the D3 fan double set up on the car. But this set up will lower the temps on the car about 10 to 15 degs. Second bad thing about them not cheap at all almost 900.00 Robert
