Apparently they did use a Z51 packaged Stingray. Remember they only test new models the year they come out.

It usually comes back to the track because these are sports cars. Corvette competes in endurance racing and builds cars designed to be competent on track.
...
Unfortunately, that's all it is... an idea. Assuming you have never been on a track before, I am 90% sure you would be faster in a 991.1 turbo vs yourself in your z. I am 99% sure it would be true in a 991.2 turbo. Also, the 2017 911 turbo runs a 10.5 quarter mile stock. (conservative Porsche numbers)
I'm starting to wonder in what scenario your z will smoke a 911 turbo. Maybe a rolling race.

I got a little track time in a Porsche, over the years. My first experience with track time was in a 1987 Porsche 944 turbo at Summit Point about 20 years ago. I will be tracking my ZO6. Just a matter of when not if.

buy a prius if that's what you are worried about...

Doesn't always have to be about the track. Just the fury(noise) of passing a person that just cut you off in a black Mazda speed3 as you were trying to peacefully yield onto route 422, that instant fury and noise of acceleration is second to none. Kinda says" Dude back off", or it's like the guy who is in the mustang GT goes into the right lane at the light knowing the two lanes must merge after the light, but instead of getting in line with the other traffic he decides to get in the right lane, thinking he can beat all the traffic to the merge, but not realizing the first guy in line is in a ZO6, and decides not to try it. It's that everyday capability that the majority of ZO6 owners bought the car for. The GS is a nice car, no question, but the ZO6 is the king of vettes for the time being. Heck its the king of most cars, from a performance point of view. All, those who think we think so because it cost more are misled. Some ZO6's (mine included) cost less then a fully loaded GS. I like the idea that I can smoke a Porsche 911 turbo for half the price.

Whatever man. I use my car to its fullest. My 2016 has 24k miles and is getting ready for track days #29 and 30 this year... You do what with your Z exactly? Maybe you should drive the prius.
I was just pointing out advantages. You can't say the Z is better at any of those things.

you keep mentioning how many track days participate in sounds like pompus d1ck measuring...
My comment implied if those are the advantages you are worried about get a civic or prius.
how many of the 24k miles are on the track?
no need to get offended

Aprox 5k have been on tracks.
I pointed out advantages and you insulted me by saying I should buy a Prius. You quoted me and said what you did. I probably wouldn't have been so mad if you didn't quote me and say YOU should buy a Prius. Now that I know you meant "If someone cares about those advantages maybe they should drive a Prius" I am not as mad. I don't care about those advantages, but I am aware they exist.
edit because I sucked at math earlier

Ok I yield, your correct. I can't exactly smoke a $200,000 Porsche 911 turbo S. But, I'm right behind it. Nevertheless you are correct. But, I saved $140,000. Ok, I know that wasn't the point so I yield that your are correct. As a former Porsche fanatic, I don't feel so bad that the $200,000 Turbo S. is a wee bit faster, lol!!!

to each their own, but I hate rear engine cars. It feels like they're always trying to kill me. I was faster in my c6 than a 550hp 997 911 turbo. The 911 is a faster car, but **** if I can get it to go fast.

Agree with this guy 100%....that's why I got a GS and not a Z06... Balance and reliability were key factors.
I've done two track days in my GS so far. I destroyed both C7 Z06's in the open advanced passing group. I was running 5 seconds a lap faster than the fasted Z06. Doesn't mean S though. I would have been even faster in a Z06. But then I was passing z06's with The Z07 package in my stock Gen 5 1LE on the track. What the vast majority of people don't get is it takes lots of skill to turn of the nannies in a Z06 and still have fun and leave with a car at the end of the day. I like to play at 10/10ths, not overheat, not end my sessions early, and have a fun car with no nannies. Hello GS.

shifter kart is most fun you can have on 4 wheels! makes everything else seem slow. costs a whole lot less and shifter kart racing is racing in its purest form.
