Can the general public tell the difference between GS, Z06 or Stingray on looks alone

I would think that's the most frequent experience we all have. It's when people try to put a price tag on my car the explanation about different models begins.
When we owners encounter each other, that's when the model stuff starts flying. I was getting ready to play golf last week when I ran into Joe, a Z06 owner, who's also a golfer. Joe was lamenting the fact that my coupe could hold a bag of clubs or two and he can't get a bag in his Z06 convertible. Randy, a forum member and another golfer I met in a parking lot, has a Z51 vert, he says the trunk is tight, but he manages. I almost enjoy the conversations more than the car. And that's the part some owners don't get...you can't have one without the other.
I'm always encouraging those who always say, "I could never afford...". I try to let them know, it's closer than you think.

I have a co worker who wants a Vette now after watching me search for them all the time. He doesnt care about performance at all. He is 40, divorced with no kids and is simply wanting a flashier looking car to get more vagina. My advice to him was to get a base used 2014 stingray in Yellow or Red that will stick out preferably with same body color brake calipers. He would be happy with the car if it was a v4 with only 170 hp.

I doubt that many non-Corvette enthusiasts can tell the differences. Now and then I'm asked, "Is that a Z06?" or "Is that a Grand Sport?" but I doubt they actually know what they're asking about.

Most of the general public don't know the difference between a C6 and a C7, let alone the differences between a Stingray, GS, or Z06. My sister did say the photo of my current C7 Z06 looked more aggressive than my C7 Z51 that I sold. So maybe some do notice some things, but they probably don't know why.

I also prefer the looks of the base model over the Z and GS. I just find the "extra bits" a little bit over the top for my taste, especially the larger spoilers. A base model with the Z51 spoiler is my top choice, it's a perfect design IMO.

Nope, and the public can't tell the difference between an S430 and an S65 either, and you're talking over $100,000 difference easily there.
Heck, most people can't tell the difference between Jack Bauer's $20 fake Rolex and a real Submariner either.
That's why you'll always be happier buying for yourself rather than to impress others, because other people won't know half the time anyway!

Corvettes are just another car on the road to 99% out there.
When the C5s came out, coming from the opposite direction were easy to confuse with a firebird.
Cars used to be very distinct looking and sounding not so much anymore
Just get what you like dont worry about the rest of the world

Vast majority don't know (and probably don't care) but that's ok.....I don't know the difference in many models of other sports cars and even exotics....I just know if I like one over another.

I would be very surprised if can tell a GS from a Z06 as are way too similar at a glance.
There's a fairly profound difference from the Stingray to the GS/Z06, so I'm sure more notice the difference.
Actually, my 4 year old granddaughter can tell the difference between a Stingray and GS, but can't tell between a GS and Z06.

Uh, no.
Z51 has slotted rotors, bigger brakes, stickier tires, bigger tires, Z51, specific wheels, bigger exhaust pipes, and a rear spoiler. Internally, it has a dry sump lubrication system and an electronic slip differential system providing for one hell of a cornering experience.

Witchunt,
Since introduction, it's gotten tougher and tougher to tell the difference between Z51 and base. Starting in '16, base cars were available w/ Z51 wheels and tires, as well as the Z51 spoiler and NPP as options. Thus, the slotted rotors are the only reliable visible exterior difference.
For '18 all, C7s will have 19/20" wheels and tires. However, the average person can't tell base from a Z06.

And someone can add the bigger brakes quite easily too. So the only real sure fire way to tell the difference between the base and a Z51 would be to pop the hood and look for the dry sump setup. It would be a TON of work to retrofit that onto a car that was originally a wet sump, so virtually nobody would do it.
Also, the Z51 doesn't have the center plastic air dam while the base model has it. But someone with a base model could remove that center piece as well.

The public doesn't know the difference. If you remove the logos, most wouldn't even know it's a Corvette. If the 2 styles are side by side, average Joe might say the fat *** tires on the wide body look a little meaner, but average Joe is not gonna think you're a looser if you got a narrow body.
