Default I Choose the Most Comfortable C7, New Member Alert

Hi been a lurker for a while, since I now have a story to tell, thought I’d contribute.

So, here’s my story, influenced by this forum. I was on a mission to get a C-7, I’ve had a C-5 since 2000. Almost bought a 2016 Shark Grey Z-51 a year ago, was there checkbook in hand, dealer kept me waiting over an hour and I walked. Got side tracked and kept driving my C-5.

A few weeks ago I got the bug again, man that Grand Sport sure looks cool and has great performance reviews. I was sure that’s what I wanted. Funny thing, I had trouble finding one that had the stock silver (pearl) wheels. So, as I’m looking, I drop into the local dealer, who’s not been price competitive, just wanted to drive a Grand Sport.
The salesman was cool, he let me drive a GS, when I remarked on the rough ride, he asked if I wanted to try another. I’d read the regular stingray has the softest ride, which as we know, along with the soft ride goes reduced handling. So now I’m thinking, I’ve never taken one of my cars on a track, I live in South Florida where there are no challenging roads. My C-5 has been great, drives like a Cadillac until I push it. So I’m thinking, for me, the softer ride would be appreciated far more often than better handling. I tested the Stingray and it still handled great. When pushed, it did have some body roll and the back end came out a little, but it still felt great. Could I keep up with the grand sport or Z-51 on the track, no, but for my daily driver, plenty of power, still corners great and the lower price allowed me to get the creature comforts of 2LT. So that’s exactly what I did.

So I’m a little different. Happy to trade more comfort for less performance. Drove one with performance exhaust, preferred the quieter car, rather not be heard by you know who when I’m getting on it, only loose about 1% without the extra 5HP. Tried selective magnetic, didn’t think the difference for me was worth the cost.

In the end, I choose the least performing C-7, it’s still a beast, lots of power and handles great.

Loving my choice.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the C7. We went with the base Corvette also. The ride is great, and I'm sure I'll never drive it to it's limits anyway. We bought it for a cruiser, not a racer. Enjoy, and post some pics when you get a chance.

I think the regular Stingray looks great, it has clean and simple lines.

I bought the 7M 2LT 2017 Stingray with the idea of not tracking the car, I bought it as a daily driver. But after spending a recent weekend at Spring Mountain I mildly regret the Stingray purchase and wish I would've bought the Z51 package... tracking the C7 was incredible!

That’s exactly what I did. I was originally thinking 1LT GS, but drove them back to back (drove Stingrays severals time though), and really wanted the little extras of the 2LT. Very happy with the ride and performance of the Stingray. It strikes a great balance between grand tourer and sports car.

The combination of Stingray + Stingray w/ Z51 package is still the top seller. So you are in the majority with your choice.
Congrats and Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the family!

I bought a new base '16 C7 last September. 18k miles later I have zero regrets. It's my daily driver, no stops, no tickets (yet). It will never see a track, unless it's a parking lot.

The car does everything I want and need and is a source of constant conversation.

For those who need Z51's, GS's or Z06's, that's fine and I'm sure they enjoy their cars as much as I do mine. But as you discovered, at whatever option level you choose, the base C7 is really all the Corvette most folks will ever need.

Congratulations on the C7 hopefully many satisfied uninterrupted miles of joy!

My only question did you play with the mode selector in the GS? I know they ride harsher then the Stingray but if it was in sport or track that would make it a lot stiffer.

Great forum, all nice positive replies. I'll get pics up soon. It's been raining every day since I got it Sunday. Oh, I also have that work thing getting in the way.

This C-7 is so much nicer than my C-5.....and I love my C-5.

Good choice. I went w/ a base 1LT Auto & Nav. Ordered MF wheels and Carbon Flash badging. Car is more that I can safely handle. Has all the comfort I'd want too.

Congrats and Welcome.
