Well...... damn
Some of you responded to my Trigger. Pulled. post, I had sent in my deposit on an '18 GS AB Vert, and was really excited about it. Just got a call from MacMulkin that I can't do the Museum Delivery Option with the white stripe on the hood and the floormats. Those go to the dealer for installation and can't be done at the factory for Museum delivery. That really bums me out!
I had my heart set on going to the Museum and driving the car home to NC. Really disappointed that the actual factory doesn't install the stripes and has the dealers do it. I mean, come on, seriously?
Oh well, guess it's now time to change plans and either fly up to NH and drive it back, or have it trailered down after they fix it up with all the options. (Either way costs less than the dealer 'doc-fee' they wanted down here in Raleigh) Now all I have to worry about is will NH be under 6 feet of snow in January, when the car will probably arrive?
On a more-positive note, they have an Xpel dealer up there that is supposedly phenomenal, and I was torn between the Museum delivery vs. going to NH and having the clear protection put on before driving home. I guess fate has chosen the proper path for me. Oh well, I'm still getting the car of my dreams, in the exact color I want, and MacMulkin gave me 11% off, with no dealer fees whatsoever, and told me that if any other incentives were in-play when my car is delivered, I'd get those incentives too. So I'll stop whining now.

Couldn't you get the car at the Museum without either, drive her home, and go to your local dealer to install the stripe and get the floormats?

The factory tour and museum are still well worth the drive to visit.

Stripes and floormats are just... well stripes and floormats. The Museum delivery is something only they have. I wouldn't change such a great plan for either. I ordered the Weather Tech floormats and they sent them to me in two days.

I agree. Any dealer can put the stripes on for you later. The NCM delivery should not be missed.

Snow has been hit or miss the last few years in the NE in January. Seems like winter/snow starts later and later and you're more likely to get 60* weather. Lol
I would think the main issue would be the temperature being below 40*, which I think is the limit of the summer tires and any resemblance of traction.

Also check with a local custom shop or tint shop as most dealerships will outsource the work unless there is no charge as a result of this policy.

OP. Their xpel installer is phenomenal. I've seen it with my own eyes. I thought my install was good until I saw one done by their installer wow are they good.
as for January? Tough because these tires are like ice skates in under 40f. You should have it trailers home from the Dealer imho.
good luck can't wait for the pics.

You raise a very good point that I've not seen discussed on all the PPF installation threads on this forum. That is every car is different, and installers who have done a lot of C7s (or a lot of any particular make), are probably going to do a lot better job. They know the tricks involved in covering all the unique shapes, which is a trial and error process the first time.
Anyone considering PPF should ask prospective installers how many of my model have you done? Given the number of C7s MacMulkin sells, I bet their installer is among the best in the country.

I ordered my GS thru MacMulkin and had the car XPEL covered before I picked it up as I had a 1200 mile trip back here to the Midwest. Their installer did a first rate job.

I will probably just have the car sent to MacMulkin, and save the 1K and go to the museum and have fun some other time. I'm sure it feels great to be treated like a rock-star with the delivery option, but I want the car to be ready and want it to look just like I ordered it when I see it for the first time. I was also struggling with the thought of driving it all the way to NC from BG, KY with no protection on the paint of any kind. Since this is my first, and probably only, new Corvette, I want to protect it and keep it looking sharp. It's all good, I was really struggling with what to do, now my mind was made up for me. I'm not devastated, just bummed out that the actual factory doesn't build the entire car when you 'build and price' on the factory website. Just seems like lame, if you ask me.

Smart move.
Given the fact that you've decided to wrap it, you'll be pissed if you pick up rock chips on the way home, which you likely will, especially on the rockers and that wide-body rear.

It's not lame at all. It's about getting the car to you without damage from transit. Some of the options don't stay nice during transit from BG, so they let the dealer put them on after the car is off the truck. Some cars are trucked, then put on rail, then trucked again. The side skirts, front splitter, stripes are all in this category. If they put on the (stick-on) stripes in BG, maybe it's their experience that many get damaged in transit.

Besides having the GS XPEL covered, we flew in to Boston/Logan where MacMulkin had their driver pick us up. In our luggage we had the ACS extended front/rear GM mud guards. We installed them right there in MacMulkin's lot before leaving, a 15 min job. Be sure to take the correct socket/torx to remove the stock guards.

Have purchased five Vettes and three other cars from MacMulkin.
Phenomenal dealership and the Xpel installer is great.
I had them put Xpel in the interior rocker panel to prevent scrapes when getting in and out of the Vette.

I agree, pick it up at the factory and have local dealer install the strips.
Besides you may decide you like it without the strips after seeing it.
Also, you are most likely going to encounter some pretty bad weather
driving from NH to NC that time of year. And if shipped its going to cost you more than the
$600 processing fee your local dealer was going to charge you.

Picked up my 18 GS 19 days ago at MacMulkin. They did a perfect installation with X Pel. Drove the car home, 200 miles, no chips, car ran perfect.

Another thing to maybe consider is have the stripe painted with that extra $1k you are saving. I have my car fully wrapped in XPel. I think the stripes would look a little nicer and more custom if they were painted on. Without the XPel you have the edge of the decal stripe, with the XPel you can get an airgap along the edge of the stripe.

With my luck, I'd hit a bit patch of gravel-y road on the way home, and chip the heck out of the paint, so I'm relieved to be able to stop worrying about what to do. I'm going to send it to MacMulkin, and if the weather is too bad to drive it back, after their people put on the Xpel and the Ceramic coating, I'll have it shipped down to a (hopefully) warmer NC. I'll make the trek to the museum sometime soon, but I would prefer to not scratch the car up on the way home. It's all good. I'm at peace with it now.

I bought my car at MacMulkin too. It has the Xpel treatement, looks great still after a few years. There literally is not one bad vette there, its like a vette museum. I'd totally buy sight unseen next time.
