Would you buy a GM buyback car?
Found a C7 Buyback car. Dealer Claim it wouldn't start. Warranty is still in place. Would this car branded in any way after I buy it?
Car looks like new.
Thanks

I would. If you keep it 3 years it won't make a difference to the next purchaser whether it was a buy back car or not. A large number of buy back cars are from PIA Customers with minor issues, some are due to major issues and some are for recurring minor issues. The car's come with a full warranty and you are better off buying one of them Vs a used car that you have no history other than a carfax and the owner's say so. At least you know what you are getting. My 86 was a buy back car that I purchased when it was one year old. I kept it for 10 years and it was one of the best cars I even owned. The 86 was the year introduced the antitheft system that used the resistor built into the key. There were some teething issues with it and there were intermittent no starting problems with the system. GM fixed the problem by releasing an update that fixed the problem on all 86s a week after I purchased the car. My car was the first car in the country that got the update. Car was fantastic after that. I traded it when I got the hots for a 97.

It doesn't matter what the dealer says, the GM service record should disclose everything because it was handled under warranty. I'd get the service record and read it carefully before considering a purchase. Also, when I was buying there were several buy back cars available. They were priced lower than the clean, no problem cars, but not by much. As I recall, they were around $2K lower than the lowest price car with a clean record, around $3K or $4K less than a similar CPO car. The deal has to be a lot sweeter than that to get me to take that kind of risk. Consider buy back cars typically spend a lot of time sitting at a dealer waiting for repairs. That's why the previous owner got pissed off.

Seems incredulous to me that a car could have had so many warranty issues that GM is forced to buy it back, and then they'd turn around and sell it AGAIN with a full warranty. Boy, talk about being a glutton for punishment!
And I would respectfully disagree with your statement that in 3 years the next buyer won't care about if the Corvette was a buy-back. Perhaps with Camrys and other throw-away appliances, but not with Corvettes. I know that I certainly would NOT choose a 4-5-year-old Corvette that was a buy-back, *especially* if it was at the same price as a Corvette with a clean history. I would think most people here would agree with that, but maybe I'm wrong?

Never in my life would I consider a buy-back car

If it had full warr & if you are getting one hell of a deal on the cost of it yes I would. But if you ask the dealer you can get a print out of the car on every little thing that has been done to the car under the warr.
But if I was getting a really great deal on the car then no I would not buy it... Robert

Ask the dealer for a printout of the GMVIS report on the car. It will detail the history. If the dealer will not provide that, run away.

I'm a DIY guy when it comes to cars. I would buy if I was going in eyes wide open. If I knew why it was a buy back, then I could rationalize what the possible pitfalls would be. Not sure if you can figure out specifics about a buy back though. Never looked.
