Default Auto-Lock

I can't find the answer to this...

I have a M7. When I drive away the doors automatically lock. When I stop, I either need to turn off the car or manually unlock in order to open the doors. Is there any way to disable the auto-lock?

I don't think so (but I have an A8), here's what it says in the manual:

Automatic Door Unlock
The vehicle is programmed so that
when the shift lever is moved into
P (Park) for automatic transmission
vehicles or when the ignition is
turned off or is in Retained
Accessory Power (RAP) for manual
transmission vehicles,
both doors
will unlock.

With the vehicle stopped and the
engine running, door unlocking can
be programmed through the Driver
Information Center (DIC). This
allows the driver to choose various
unlock settings. For programming
information, see Vehicle
Personalization 0 131.

Vehicle Personalization
Auto Door Unlock
This allows selection of which of the
doors will automatically unlock when
the vehicle is shifted into P (Park)
with an automatic transmission or
when the vehicle is turned off with a
manual transmission.

Select Off, All Doors, or Driver Door

Not that I know of. I like that the car locks itself when you drive and I can understand the logic of "from that time until you turn off the car the doors should remain locked". It is a little bit of a pain when you say come up to a gate and need to open the car door in order to punch in the numbers since the vette sits so low. I often forget I first need to hit unlock to open the door. Not sure what a good solution would be.

Hit the home button below the Navigation Screen. Go to Vehicle settings, turn off the "auto lock" feature and it will no longer lock when you drive. It will revert to manual lock.

Yup. Exactly why I was interested in disabling it.

I tried this. I think this feature is for auto locking after you exit the vehicle.

Electric doors kind of freak me out. I need to put a glass breaking tool in the car, just in case of emergency. I would have been more than satisfied with regular, manual latches. I'm sure the electric doors are needed to make sure glass inches down before opening.

Why would you need a glass breaking tool when to get out all you have to do is reach down by the side of the seat and pull up the mechanical lever... one on each side of the car: one for driver, one for passenger.

I keep a glass breaker in my car too. Not because of the electric doors, but if you ever get in an accident and the doors get wedged shut....it can save your life. It's very difficult to break a window from inside the car.

This thread got me thinking, I dislike that my doors lock as I back out of the garage as my passenger cannot get in inside the garage. So I tried the delayed door lock setting and, guess what, makes no difference that I can discern, doors still lock as soon as I move the shift lever out of park whether the setting is on or off. What am I issuing or doing wrong?

You're kidding, right? What do you think the handle on the floor is for?

Well I never publicly commented on this before but in December of last year I was almost burned to death because of auto door lock. NO It was not a Vette but my wife's 16 Toyota Rave 4. It a long story but i will keep it quick as I can

*****I l lost about 3 hours of memory all this below was told me buy the deputy sheriff and the two people that ot me out of the SUV.******

Hit some very well hidden black ice on a nasty curvie back road, rolled the SUV and it ended up still running on its passenger side. I was driving wearing my seat belt but was knocked unconscious and a bloody mess.
. A truck driver stopped grabbed his fire extinguisher and put out the fire that somehow got started.

The door locks kept the door from being opened and I was trapped hanging in the seat belt. The fire rekindled and he used his now empty extinguisher and his steel towed boots to kick out the windshield on the passenger side. Got my belt undone and the truck driver and another person managed to get me out through the windshield.(I was 71YO, 5'11' 250 lbs at the time) Got me 50' from the vehicle and the gas tank exploded. If that had happened 10 seconds earlier I would have burned to death and quite possibly my two rescuers.

And people wonder why I hate some of the nanny bullchit vechicles come with. Insurance bought her a new Rave 4 and I made sure that the dumb *** door locks was disabled before the car left the lot.

My Vette dealership said there was no way to disable that on my Vette, so I just hope history does not repeat its self!

These threads make me laugh. How hard is it to push a button? With all the tech people are getting really lazy. I have auto stop on my Raptor. It doesn't remember last setting like BMW. It defaults to ON. Owners bitch because they have to turn it off by pushing the button. I am sure many of you remember having to manually roll down the window and push and pull the lock. Better yet remember having to pull a key out and stick it in the ignition? How spoiled do we need to be. I could bitch that the corvette doesn't have rain sensing wipers and I have to go through the HASSLE of adjusting the time if I drive in the rain. However I am grateful for having a sweet ride that many would love to have. RANT over.

Glad you're ok!

Not to make light of your story, but I don't see how ordinary non-automatic mechanical door locks would have been any better, presuming you lock your doors while driving which most people do or should do.

Either way, someone inside the car needed to unlock the doors, which you couldn't do acct of being unconscious.

If you have an active OnStar acct, don't they unlock the doors after an airbag deployment if you either can't answer them, or you tell them you are hurt?
