Stingray, Stingray w/Z51, GS, Z06, upcoming ZR1.
Great cars, gets a lot of looks 4 years later, decent performance from a base and it just gets better from there.
Best Corvette to date but the C8 is just around the corner.

[crib notes] Depends on who is talking, but most will tell you a Z51 is a base model Stingray (except for 2014, when Z51 was offered as a separate model when ordering). Lots of debate here, though.
No matter who you talk to, Z06 and G.S. are not Stingrays. [/crib notes]

3 Power configurations, Base=455 HP, upgraded performance exhaust-louder and+5HP=460 HP, then Z-06, the highest performance C-7.
Base Stingray, Z-51 upgrade=better brakes & performance handling also stiffer ride. Grand sport, even better handling and wide wheel wells etc. Z-06=the ultimate performance C-7.
All have difference driving modes from touring to track and in between. Selective magnetic is an option for more control over the shocks.
Lots to research.
I decided on one, then test drove and changed my mind.
I have a C-5 and just bought a C-7, I love my C-7.

If you really think about it, all Stingrays are "base" Corvettes.

So the Z51 suspension and handling package became standard on every C7 after 2014?

Z51 is the "sports" package. He was just referring that GM had the Z51 listed as a different model the production year as a money grab for the less informed buyers....new to the platform people. The Z51 has always been a package. Just like the Chevy trucks having their "Z" packages.

The Z51 model dry sump oiling system, eLSD, bigger tires/wheels, front and rear brake cooling ducts, brakes, springs, sway bars, trans/differential cooler and oil cooler cost more money, so yes, they need to grab more money to cover those costs.
The mechanical differences between base and Z51 are greater than those between Z51 and GS. And then there is that Z06 package . . . LOL. "Model" vs. "package" is a rather meaningless semantic distinction. It's just marketing.

No, GM just didn't list it as a separate "model" after '14. As others have said, it's semantics in advertising, and even those of us who own a '14 Z51 don't really consider it a separate model, except just to ruffle some feathers.
