I'll forget that one immediately. That's another great way to ensure a citation.

"Because I may have been momentarily exceeding the speed limit is the only smart answer," and by far and away the most likely way to drive away with only a warning.

Nice one, Foosh.
Maybe we need to start a thread entitled "How to talk your way out of a ticket"

The problem comes down to the bottom line. Speed limits are ridiculously low and designed to accommodate the worst drivers. They come off lights slow, they take miles to get up to speed and always migrate directly to the farthest left lane until their exit where they cut everyone off across the Interstate. Driver Education and licensing requirements are very diffident in teaching highway skills and practices. They could easily put most Interstates to 80 or more without incident IF people could drive. In spite of it being incredibly dangerous and illegal, I see so many people texting. The police should concentrate on that and lane discipline and leave speeders alone. Illegal? Hah, nobody cares anymore.

My wife once got a ticket on campus for going one MPH over the posted limit. The judge threw out the ticket, but she still had to pay court costs.
yes we were pissed.

We refer to this as a PERFORMANNCE AWARD! Usually they aren't wasted on 6mph over. I still think he just wanted to see your car cuz he was jealous
My last one was 93 in a 75. So glad I slammed on the brakes when I saw him... from 128. Heck he should have given me an award for braking so quickly instead of a ticket! JMHO

When you are running radar, you only have a second or so to get a lock on a car, stow the radar gun, start the bike (or car) accelerate to speed, and get the violator stopped. A Hyundai can look like a lot of other cars at 62 MPH, but a bright yellow Corvette is going to be hard to miss in a pack of cars.

I've had it happen a couple of times. Stop a champagne Toyota, and the driver swears he was going the speed limit, and it was the Other champagne Toyota that passed him, he remembers seeing it. Can I go to court and swear I stopped the right Toyota? No, I can't. But bright yellow Corvettes are few and far between, I can be 99.9999% sure I got the right one. Is it fair? Maybe not, but if you want to blend in, get a Toyota.

On another note, my completely unofficial and unscientific observation of car brands that I wrote most often, for really excessive speed (20+ over) was the Toyota Prius. Second was probably anything with someone under 20 driving, and a coffee can muffler. I actually stopped very, very few Corvettes...
I was driving the same speed as a group of cars. My car was the one targeted and pulled over. I was driving my Prius to work. I've gotten pulled over four times in the Prius, easy. Once for speeding, twice for an out headlight, and once for doing a rolling stop supposedly. I've never gotten pulled over in my WRX, Corvette, or Plum Crazy Purple Challenger.

We used to get pulled over all the time in our old Camaros and Trans Ams with the tinted windows and loud exhausts! My '78 Trans Am is a track car and I got a ticket because the wheels chirped when I left a light. They always chirp. Unsafe start. Can't make that up.

Implying he liked the car and wanted to see it up close.
Why couldn't a LEO have a Corvette? Scratching my head here.
When I got pulled over, there was a Mini Cooper that I was"playing" with that didn't apply his brakes so he was going way faster than I was when the radar locked. I asked the officer (very polite officer I might add) why the other guy didn't get stopped. He replied, "because I clocked YOU!" Good point!

I am scratcing mine too. What would he be jealous of? Seems to me some think a police officer cannot afford a Corvette or wishes he could have something you have but can't. Not the case at all, at least at my department. Most slick sleeves with 5 years on could easily afford a new Z06.

I didn't realize people were so sensitive. Ok, it could have been Mini Cooper or a Mustang or a Prius. Something they wanted to look at. I guess we don't make jokes on this forum. Lesson learned. I will keep my funnies to myself so I don't hurt some LEO''s feelings.

FWIW, cops don't stop cars because they want to look at them. It'd be the same thing as stopping a car driven by an attractive woman, to look at her. That would be a 4th Amendment violation, amongst others...

FWIW, that was an attempt at humor. Obviously it was a poor attempt. My apologies to those that don't understand humor. I will keep my comments and posts to strickly information going forward. Is there a way to remove my comments? I would be glad to do that. I guess I assumed this was a light hearted fun forum. I stand corrected.

Congrats on beating the ticket. I agree that 6 over, while it is still speeding, is a rather ticket.

All's well that ends well.

I suspect that if it would have actually gone to trial, it would have been dismissed anyway. In fact, if everyone showed up here, the D/A would be told to deal it out by the judge anyway. It'd be one pissed off judge taking an hour out of a court day to argue a 6 MPH cite. The Officer probably would have gotten a talking to by the judge as well...

Humor and joking are welcomed, but in this case the humorous comment was perceived as insulting to LEOs. It could easily be perceived that you were suggesting that the only way the average LEO can get up close to a nice sportscar is by pulling one over, because you believed they can't afford them.

It's also a very sensitive subject when someone accuses an LEO of targeting by gender, color of skin, type of car, etc. Thus, not a good topic for humor and an insult to the integrity of the vast majority of LEOs.
