Default Updated speeding ticket for 6MPH over..Vette Tax

Well I got the ticket back in February and for those who want to review this is the link to that thread

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...vette-tax.html

The short version is I got a ticket for going 61 MPH in a 55 MPH on a 6 lane highway. In addition, while I was in the left lane, I was behind a simple Hyundai yet my Yellow and Black Stingray got pulled over but the Hyundai who was in front of me did not. I was not tailgating and the highway patrolman never accused me of it. I still believe the only reason I was pulled over was because I had a Beautiful C7. The ticket was only $129 and I contemplated just paying it but I have had not had a ticket for 14 years and really did not feel like I deserved this one (I know 6 MPH is still speeding).

It took 6 months to get a court date (I did not even try the rescheduling trick. After 6 months I just wanted it over).

I went to court house and in a crowded courtroom I was the very last case called (my last name begins with a W) and the Highway Patrolman was not there.....

Case Dismissed!

I have to think the reason he did not show up was he knew this was a ridiculous ticket to begin with and it was not worth his time to go to court.

Kudos to you for showing up. I firmly support law enforcement but with all the crap going on in the world 6mph over tickets on a 6 lane highway in the left lane is wasting time.

10mph over? Maybe. 15-20? Yes, write a ticket. At least where I live if you started writing 6mph over tickets on the highway you would be ticketing 90% of the drivers.

It's called flow of traffic...

I had the exact same tax. I was caught going 36 in a 30 zone. Showed up and took defensive driving to clear the ticket.

Congrats!! Where I live, if I'm not going at least 15mph over the posted limit, then I'm getting ran over or cussed out and some of these people are really pissed throwing the bird. So I usually drive to work and hit 80mph for a moment or two regularly, it's pretty normal to be hauling *** for 80% of the traffic. They actually passed a slow poke law for the far left lane this year.

Were you actually going 6 MPH over posted, or did the Officer give you a break, and only write you for 6 over?

Good for you! Always show up for a ticket. There is chance the LEO may not show up, but even if he does and you lose, the court time ate up the profit from the ticket. Small consolation, perhaps, but a consolation nonetheless....

That is pretty harsh. My personal limit was 15 over, and I was a Motor.

There was really no reason to go any lower, there is plenty of work at 15+ over. I almost always wrote for lower, no reason to beat people up...

Friend of mine was exceeding the speed limit along with several other cars. LEO pulled him over and he said, "There were other cars going as fast or faster than I was - why did you pull ME over?"

LEO answered, "When you shoot into a flock of ducks, you never get all of them."

I was told once that 11mph over is the typical ticket threshold, but that threshold doesn't take into account newly minted young cops, quotas, small towns, etc. Roll the dice and take your chances.

I've been an LEO for 25 years. I would be embarrassed to hand out a ticket like that with my signature on it. Absurd.

To be completely honest given the day I was having, if the Hyundai had not been in front of me I would probably have been going much faster and the ticket would have been justified. The other part which was weird is he never asked for my registration or proof of insurance (maybe he can get that from running my licence?) At the time when he pulled me over in early February, my registration had expired in late January so I did not have the new 2018 sticker on my licence plate and he never noticed. To be clear I had already updated the registration but I had not put the new sticker on yet.

Either way it was a lesson for me. When I drive on the 528 in that area I stay at 55 MPH... Even though I'm the only one doing it..This is no lie, the last time I was on this road a church bus passed me.

It's a bitch isnt it. When I drive my truck I have no issue going with the flow of traffic which is usually about 80 to 83mph. When I'm in my vette I go 75mph typically and get passed by Priuses and all sort of pathetic cars. But I know I will be the one picked out of the crowd when the state trooper is on the prowl.

WIN WIN, dropped ticket and observe speed limit as best you can. I am like you I will challange anytime I feel I have been given a bad deal.
