Garaged with Targa on/off or Top up/down?
When (and if) you garage your C7 for the night do you always put the targa top on or the convertible top up? Or do you leave it off/down? Or do you sometimes do one or the other depending on what you decide at the time? Any special reason why you do it the way you do?

Both Z's are garaged one with the top on and the other with the top up always.

I always put the vert top up if I'm not using it for more than a couple hours. I figure it keeps it less wrinkly, and maybe preserve some of that new car smell. I generally put it up while out and about to deter people from messing with the car.

On my Convertible I always close the top when I am done driving for the day. I think this minimizes wrinkles, keeps out any critters, dirt, etc. Plus it is very easy and fast to lower it when ready to go.

Depends on what I believe I'm going to do the next time I take it out. For example:
* If the targa is off and I won't need it on next time, I'll leave it off. If I think I'm going to want it on, then I'll put it back on. Doesn't take me long - I do it by myself and it takes me about 60 seconds since I've done it several times.
* On our chromie, I always leave it with the hardtop off, and the canvas top stowed. No use driving that one in the rain unless I get caught, and then I can put the canvas top up.
* I always keep the windows of the C7 down when it's in the garage too (both vettes are stowed on stackers so I can get our drivers in the garage) because it helps clear out the glue/composite smell. That smell doesn't bother me (in fact, I like it), but it does the wife.
Bottom line for me is I put it away and try to leave it the way I'll want for the next use. And if you have a vert, leaving the top stowed on a C7 vert won't cause the type of creases that take a lot of time to work out, etc. like the old type top on our C3 - the C7 verts are really nice and the top works extremely well.

Regarding the chemical smell, my new GS was awful the first couple of weeks with the windows up, could not even sit in the car while in the garage. I then kept the windows down when in the garage, and finally, after driving it with the top down for a couple off months, and windows down at night, the smell has dissipated almost completely.

If I leave the targa off, I put the windows up and throw a sheet over the top. It keeps any garage dust, or what-not, out of the cabin. If parked for more than a few days, I always reinstall the roof. The car still smells band new after a 1.5 yrs, which is partially attributed to keeping the cabin somewhat contained when parked for any duration.

Like others have said, depends on my plan for the next day. If I drove home from work with targa off and next morning is supposed to be rain free/nice temp, I leave it off. I figure the less times I put it on/take it off/put it in the hatch, the less opportunities I have to scratch it, damage seals, etc. But I like to take it off as much as possible. I've even left it off at work on occasion (I have covered garage parking at work, on a military base, with police patrols, so I feel fairly confident its not going to get messed with and I don't leave anything valuable in it.)

Convertible top up when not in use, keeps dust out and reduces wrinkles/creases in the top.
Besides, owner's manual says too, so I assume there's reason.

Every convertible I've ever owned (6 total lifetime and presently 2 a 67 Corvette and my 2015 C7), same rule: if it is parked for longer than it takes to put the top up, the top goes up whether in my garage or anywhere else. My 67 is marina blue with a white interior and white top--I can see the dust on the top which is easy to clean but I sure don't want it in the interior.
And the C7 has the SmartTop module so I can raise the top while in the process of parking.

Tops are always sealed and windows closed. I live in FL. We have bugs. Nothing you can do will 100% prevent bugs even in the garage as you must at some time open the door. My wife is terrified of bugs. Do the math.
