The Grand Sport exists, so why bother with the Z51?

The article is click bait. I would have bought a GS but my Z51 was $11K cheaper...
Money saved towards the C8.

The Grand Sport its an amazing vette but I love my Z51, and have the advantage of less $ tire replacement cost. I also think that probably the GS might be too much for the street, considering that the Z51 has tons of performance that normally I'm not able to fully explore in the street. To each their own both are great cars.

I agonized looking at GS cars before I got my Z51. I thought long and hard about what I plan to do with the car. Track days? On the agenda. AutoX? Probably. Going to drive it a lot? Oh yeah.
I am not good enough of a driver to extract all the performance out of the GS. Just being honest with myself, and the tires are vastly cheaper, which is a huge expense.
I'm starting to drive my car on back roads (got it last week) and even the Z51 is so fast on the street you can easily get in major trouble. Hopefully one day I'll be good enough on the track to make the step up.

Exactly! I'm very happy GM is offering so many level options with the C7; base, Z51, GS, Z06, ZR1. There's a flavor to suit everyone's palate

Personally I'm very thankful that someone brought this up. I think the next article should be about the automatic 8 speed VS the Manual 7 speed. Maybe do a Z51 vs base, and perhaps a Grand Sport VS Z06 after that. These topics just don't get enough coverage.

I think for a lot of people, the Z51, and even the base is plenty of car. Even the dead base model is still a 450hp, 12 second, 1g handling car....it's still a lot of machine for someone looking for a summer fun car or weekend ride. Not everyone is a track rat and I think a lot of older fellas prefer the cleaner, simplicity of a base or z51.
Keepin it real though, a Z51 may not look as succulent in pictures, but on the street the car still has huge presence. C7's are mean looking, period.

I think the freedom to chose and debate is great. The GS M7 was for me. I just don't get buying an automatic sports car. I feel like I DRIVE a manual, but RIDE in an automatic. I tried a dual clutch auto also, didn't matter.

#1 answer, you don't like the wide body look.
Car aesthetics are a major deciding factor when purchasing one.
That's cars in general right now. But they all do eventually sell (and for a profit I might add). Margins on Corvettes are pretty good.
Because they aren't articles. At least this one isn't a link back to an existing topic.
Whoever the people are who run the "front page" of the site (not the forums) should be fired, as they are in fact morons. I've never seen worse website development in my life, articles with no substance, link backs, and a general misunderstanding of your core audience (if I wasn't a member of the forum these front page articles would steer me to another site).

Like most front page articles, it's not worth commenting on, and as usual written by a non-credible source.

Interesting. So in that case, what would be the stupidest article?

I traded my 2005 in on a 2008 Z06 because of the wide-body. Then the Grand Sport came out. That pissed off allot of people back then. Its just marketing and a way to sell more cars. Now there's the 65th Anniversary Carbon Ceramic Limited Edition. I still have my Z06 and love it, but I love my Z51 Stingray just as much. I like my little red Corvette.

There was an article about two years ago that totally trashed the entire C4 line-up. Whether or not you like C4s, the editors of this forum have no business singling out a group of Corvettes and trashing them. Sorry, I don't remember the title, but the author/editor never wrote another trash article after that one. About a year later he was no longer posting articles.

I actually have a C4, a 1990 bright red coup 6 sp manual. My 1st corvette. That was the 1st year C4 with the curved dash. Still looks great. Trashing the C4 vettes is stupid. I was just picking up on your use of the word penultimate, which has a different meaning than many people realize. It's a formal way of saying "next to last" in a series.

Talk about exaggerating the truth...The author of this article acts like the Z51 drives like a Mack truck compared to the Cadillac ride of the base model. The tire life and replacement cost alone for the Grand Sport Tires compared to the Z51 tires can be a small fortune if using your car as a daily driver. Other than that...it's mostly cosmetics and when calling the Grand Sport a wide body compared to the narrow body Z51...yes it's wider but not 2 feet wider...It's not that big of a deal and to me...only noticeable if the two cars are parked right next to each other.
