Default Need This Weird Part (or a 3D Printer)

I'm building my own second roof wall storage system (don't like the design of the commercially available one) and I need two of these brackets from the back of the car:

Size: 1.02 MB

I ordered them new from a GM parts dealer, by the order was canceled due to an indefinite backorder at GM.

If anyone is in a position to part out a C7 coupe, or can made these in a 3D printer, I'd love to buy a set. If what I plan to do works, I'll be posting instructions here on how to build your own.

Thanks!

Do you have a file to print?

No, I confess not having a lot of knowledge when it comes to 3D printing. Are these things laser scanned or something? Can someone on this forum do that and share the file?

You'd have to laser scan or 3D-model the part, neither of which is very hard but it's not trivial either... a couple of hours of work to do it right.

I have a 3D printer at work and I could certainly model it but it's a bit of work that I would need to make some time for. Remove part, measure and model it, then send to printer, verify and adjust, if necessary. There are different materials available to print with as well.

Maybe someone with more time could create the file and send it to me.

Sure seems like there should be some wrecked Corvettes somewhere you could get the parts from since that part would most likely not be damaged.

Wonder if this is the same part for C6 too.

If you can contact these folks they may have some around. They part out wrecks. I've bought from them, and they had good service.

You would think that, and I emailed about 10 different junkyards, but so far no luck!

Make one out of wood or mild steel or even plastic block.... 2x2 block center drill to match and 45* cut both edges to center. Looks very easy to duplicate....?...

Something I threw together real quick based on measurements from my car, slightly different geometry, but I'm guessing the important features will work.

Can you tell me more about it's intended purpose? Put on the wall or something like that?

If just for wall storage, is there some need that it be this specific design? Many simpler hooks would work fine, imho.

I've found the parts there, thanks! It would be awesome to have a 3D printable version as well for others to replicate it.

Yes, I'm going to be basically recreating the trunk's storage system on a wall. The problem with the currently available rack is that it forces you to hang the top by the levers, but puts weight on the levers (and the screw that holds them) and would eventually weaken and loosen that screw. I will build a rack using a sheet of plywood as a base, and the parts from the trunk, as if the trunk were hanging on the wall, nose of the car pointed up. I figure a slight angle of the bottom away from the wall (by building up the bottom's base) ought to keep anything from sliding out. You would simply slide the top onto the rack the same way you would into the trunk.

Once I get the thing built and tested, all the parts needed could be 3D printed and the whole thing made as a kit.
