Default Things you hear at the car show

What's the best, or most entertaining thing, you have heard someone say about your car at a car show?

I overheard someone looking at my car and say to his buddy, "Now that's a car with some nuts!". Not gonna lie. It kind of made my day.

Mines more what I saw. I was at a cruise night a mom and a little guy maybe 6 were in front of my car, I hear mom say which car do you like best. The little guy turns and say's mine and uses his hand to point at my car his hand with ice cream cone. Cone goes right into front bumper. Mom was upset more than little guy with out cone now. I said don't worry about it. I got a cloth from car wiped off . I even gave the kid my slip for free ice cream cone . He even sat in the car made his day and mine. All good! Dave

Heard someone say they wish their paint was as nice as mine.
The car sat for 15 yrs as a storage shelf.......
When I rescued it I thought it needed a paint job !
But I guess the right tools + hours and hours of rubbing and polishing paid off

It wasn't at a car show, but in a parking lot one day I had both the hood and rear hatch open. A little boy maybe 5 years old was walking by. He said, Look Mommy, a Transformer!"

My very favorite thing at any car show is listening as some 20-something is trying to impress his girlfriend with how much he knows about cars in general and Corvettes in particular. My Top Five comments so far:

"You know they don't make these anymore. It's too bad, I was going to pick one up." (Also heard in the conversation that he's currently unemployed.)

"My Dad used to have one of the really rare metal ones. It'd be worth a lot now." (Yes. Yes, I guess it would.)

"My Mustang could kick this thing's ***." (He had a stock 1996 5-liter Mustang)

"The Dodge Viper was a lot cheaper." (Hmmmm. Not so much, as a rule)

"It's too bad they don't make convertibles." (My C7 is a convertible)

I make it a point not to correct them - after all, who am I to derail their chances with their lady friends? There have also been, of course, some outrageously insulting comments from total strangers regarding (A) My mid-life crisis (My silent answer: "I sure hope so. If this is mid-life, I'm going to be 126."), (B) My wasting of natural resources (My silent answer: Why are you even AT a car show, let alone being ignorant of just how economical the C7 actually is?), (C) My obviously trying to "compensate for my shortcomings/: (My silent answer: "Funny, your mother never complained . . . ), and the perennial favorite, (D) "I have a Mazda Miata, so I know what it's like to drive a sports car." (My silent answer: "Yes, I hear those are nice cars. Do they come in men's sizes?")

Sometimes you have to bite your lip so much that you end up with blood in your stool. But, on the whole, you meet a lot of friendly, knowledgeable Corvette fans who appreciate your car. They make up for the mouth-breathers mentioned above. Now, when I take my 1962 to local shows, you REALLY get some crazy comments. I'll save them for another day.

Had someone ask me last night in a parking lot what year my firebird was. When I told him it was a corvette his wife punched him and said I told you it was a corvette!

i will say i enjoy the attention the car got parked in Carlisle even with 5k other corvettes there. many people stopped and checked the car out after the parade walking past many red, verts, even beautiful C2's right up to my 16 and were all over it.. so much so i ended up leaving it parked top off windows down hood opened while i walked around the corner and had dinner with the family lol.. i enjoy the car very much. but i enjoy it even more because of the smiles it puts on kid's and adult's faces..

I get a lot of comments on the color. and if the top is off the interior gets them even more than the exterior. pics don't do it justice. the blue is a very nice shade. like a navy blue. they call it "twilight" blue.

A guy told me my car looked like the offspring of a Ferrari that mated with an Aston Martin. I took it as a nice compliment.

^^^ I like that analogy!

I get a lot of Carbon Fiber comments and questions. My car isn't as much as a show car, like Jeremy's, but it does get it's fair share of compliments and long looks.

I took the vett to a local annual show Saturday. My BIL has a restored 1949 jeep. We were standing at his jeep when this guy, which was about 25 or so, said" when I went thru basic training in the army that was the first thing they taught us was to drive a jeep like that"

Next time say "It's a 2020. They are trying to keep it under wraps, but Pontiac is coming back and I was chosen to be one of three testers world wide. The others are in Melbourne, and London." Then just go into a long drawn out back story. See how long you can keep their attention.

How is a Miata not a Sports-Car? I'm 6'3" 220 lbs. and In pretty good shape and I own a Miata, so to answer your question, yes they come in men's size. I also have a GS/Z07 and have owned numerous muscle-cars through the years. Funny guy!

Default Miata too

Nicely done, Born to run. I hope I have presence of mind to do as well, under the circumstances.

Agreed with 2cnd Chance. I've had my Miata since new (2000) and wind it out on my commute home every day, without getting ticketed. I can't do that in my new Vette. Besides, Spec Miata proves the sports car point to me.

Vette has only been to 3 shows, no real funny stuff yet, but my 13 1LE has been to a ton. From the factory, the 1LE has some of the ZL1 components, but no supercharger. The hood is always open at every show. I retrofitted C6 LS3 fuel rail covers with "Camaro" script, so the plenum cover is exposed. However, this never stops any "car expert" (and this happens often) telling his wife or girlfriend "Now this one is the 600(sometimes 700 or 800)hp supercharged one, this is the one you want to get". Of course I don't want to make them feel silly so I just let it pass, but where the hell do they see a supercharger on that LS3?

More than once, I've heard "Yeah, these are nice, but they're nothing like the older ones"...

To which I usually answer, yeah, I know. This is my 10th Corvette and I bought my first one in 1966,
so I've owned the 'older ones' as well and this is nothing like them...
My C7 is capable of 12 second quarter miles, 4 second 0-60 times, 180+ top end, goes around corners like the older ones couldn't even dream of,
AND does it all in air conditioned comfort, while knocking down 28 miles to the gallon! Yep, nothing like the older ones...
